Wink Adoptee Giving Birth

Hi!

I am hoping some of you adoptees can help me.

I am adopted and have an amended birth certificate.

When I apply for a social security number for my newborn after she is born, I want to make sure that the maiden name and birth name of the mommy (me) is what appears on my amended birth certificate.

In other words, does the ammended birth certificate supercede (override) the original birth certificate when it comes to issues such as this?

My amended birth certificate was approved by me (adoptee) and my adoptive parents back over 17 years ago.

Does social security actuaally check my birth records if I am applying for the card from my hospital?

Or do they only have access to my amended birth certificate?

Thank you all!

If this helps, I had my son and they asked me what I wanted his name to be, so I said Dylan Frank then our last name (i am married, though never legally changed my last name). Before that he was referred to Baby boy and my maiden last name, the name that my amended bc shows. So I don't think it matters at all what you give the baby for a last name. Whether or not what it says on your bc. I would imagine if they wanted to check it out, they'd use your amended bc.

It is my understanding that the amended bc supersedes the original bc. Legally, the amended bc is the only bc.

Smile Thank you

Thank you.

Yes, the maiden name is what I am concerned about. My amended bc is on file and I have my original one here, looking right at it. I shall use the name on my ammended bc then. The social security number application for my baby asks for mother's birth name. I assume this is/means maiden name, in which case I will use the amended bc then.

I am eager to hear if anyone has anything else to say though

Thank you all!
