I was born in Paterson, NJ on 2/20/75 and formally adopted three months later. I was adopted through Bethany Christian Services. Please send me a message or reply if you have any infomation that might help me in my search for bio family!

Have you contacted Bethany? I was placed thru them, and they were very helping in checking my file to see if a letter was left by my birthparents. I can find the number here somewhere - if it was the office in NJ it's not too far from me.

Thanks for the idea Unfortunately I have already been in touch with Bethany... they have had no contact with either of my birth parents since 1975 which is the year I was born. My guess is that my search efforts are futile as it doesn't seem like they are looking for me, but I'm still trying anyway!

Hi Stay, your search doesn't need to be futile. Just because your bparents haven't been in contact with the agency, that doesn't mean you can't find them. Have you thought about using a Confidential Intermediary. It may cost you some, but then the intermediary does the searching (by being able to look at your records) and makes the contact to see whether they're willing to open your records. If they are, you're given their name, address and phone number. It could save you years of searching on your own.

State of New Jersey Confidential Intermediary: Confidential intermediary services are provided through the registry.

State of New Jersey Adoption Registry: The following persons may use the registry: adopted adults, adoptive parents of minor adoptee, and birth parents. At the request of an adopted adult, or of a minor adoptee with permission from his or her adoptive parents, the registry will conduct a search for birth relative(s) who have not registered.
