Rock-a-bye Baby Jesus Version

Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop
When the wind blows the cradle will rock
When the birds sing is tra la da dee
We will have Jesus care for baby

This is my mothers version. She believes God gave her this version when my oldest sister Elizabeth was a baby. She always hated the other version too.

A nice twist

This is a twist to the song, 'Rock-A-Bye Baby'. I like it. It says what I feel as an adoptive parent:

Rock-A-Bye Baby, Sent from Above
Mom's little Angel, God's little Love.
Now that your with me, life is so sweet
Since God's dearest Angel made it complete.

Rockabye baby

This is the version I made up and sang to both of my adopted little ones. It is definitely both of their favorite lullabyes. My younger child's name is Maya, and she has brown eyes, and she still likes lullabyes, so I have put those things in there, but you can see that you can personalize it to any child. You can sing it to Rockabye Baby, but I prefer the slower pace of Down in the valley, from which I took the last verse. The other verses are mine. Down in the Valley was kinda my theme song when I was waiting for both my kids to come home. Although it isn't about adoption, it really expresses the love, longing, and potential loss of the adoption wait.

Rockabye baby,
here on my knee.
Isn't it time you settled to sleep?
Isn't it time you closed those big eyes?
Go to sleep [Maya], lullabye.

Rockabye [brown] eyes,
little round nose.
Ten little fingers, ten little toes,
Rockabye [Maya], time for bed dear.
Sweet dreams my darling, 'til morning is here.

When you are older,
when you are grown.
You'll have a baby, a child of your own.
You'll rock her to sleep dear; she'll be your delight.
But now you're my baby, so [Maya] goodnight.

Roses love sunshine,
violets love dew.
Angels in heaven, know I love you.
Know I love you dear, know I love you.
Angels in heaven, know I love you.

Down in the Valley is a love song sung by a man/woman in jail down in the valley thinking about his/her sweetheart high in the mountains above. There are many versions, as this song has been around along time and nobody knows the first author, but the version I used to sing to myself was this:

Down in the valley, valley so low.
hang your head over, hear the winds blow.
Hear the winds blow, dear, hear the winds blow.
Hang your head over, hear the winds blow.

Down in the valley, walking between,
telling our story, here's what it means.
Here's what it means, dear, here's what it means.
Telling our story, here's what it means.

Roses love sunshine, violets love dew.
Angels in heaven know I love you,
know I love you, dear, know I love you.
Angels in heaven know I love you.

Build me a castle forty feet high,
so I can see [her] as [she] goes by,
as [she] goes by, dear, as [she] goes by.
So I can see [her] as [she] goes by.

Writing this letter, containing three lines.
Answer my question, "Will you be mine?"
"Will you be mine, dear, will you be mine,"
answer my question, "Will you be mine?"

If you don't love me, love whom you please.
Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease.
Give my heart ease, dear, give my heart ease.
Throw your arms round me, give my heart ease.

Throw your arms round me, before it's too late.
Throw your arms round me, feel my heart break.
Feel my heart break, dear, feel my heart break.
Throw your arms round me, feel my heart break.

Lovestory and Ramini,

Just wanted to let you know that I love your versions of the lullabies. A lot better than the original.
