New to this site
Hi My Name is Tiffany and I am new to this site. Actually new in this whole plan to foster with the hope to adopt. I have 2 kids (schoolaged) but made a stupid mistake in tying my tubes.
I am remarried and we thought about foster care. We have room in our home and in our hearts. I am excited to start this process. Please give any advice or your story. I love to hear. The only worry I have is that I do work, I am a nurse so I do work 3 days a week. |

![]() Working will not disqualify you from fostering...In my state it requires a waiver which is not hard to get!

Hi- I'm new here as well. My huband and I both work full time as well, I didn't realize that might require a waiver.
We just started the process of taking the classes, looking to finish those up in March and then move on to the home studies! |

Welcome. I mean what follows in the kindest way possible. If you want to foster to help children, great!
If you want to foster as an avenue to adopt a baby, this is the hardest way possible.Where I am, private adoption matches, on average in 6-9 months. With the county, we have been waiting for two years and one month for 1-2 children, any race, sex, drug exposed or addicted, history of mental health in the family and medical issues on a case by case basis, expanded up to age 7. I say this not to discourage you but to help inform. If I had the money for IVF, I would have it, simply because I am tired of waiting (I don't really want a newborn). If I could afford the 16 thousand it costs to adopt privately, I would; but we are of modest means. Luckily, we have had the chance to have a straight foster placement, helping two children, to RU with their completely lovely grandmother (it still hurt our hearts). As far as working goes, I teach and it is not a problem for placement in California. With all of the furlough days and holidays, I am home a lot...oh my poor bank account :/ Wishing you all the best.

I know many many foster families where both parents work and it is not a problem as long as you can show that the children will be cared for properly, whether it is a babysitter, daycare, or your husband.
Good luck on your journey and welcome to fosterland! ![]()

Best of luck to you and your family. We have a bio daughter and want another child. We don't want a huge age gap between our kids and this is what has led us to foster to adopt. We just got certified in December and are currently fostering 3 kids. None of which have tpr and non eligible for adoption (although it appears our 1 month old foster son will be eligible for adoption). We are waiting for our forever child but will continue to foster until that time comes. We are still learning as we go but read as much as you can as there is a wealth of info on this site!

Well that isn't bad. Most parents do have to work, because things are so expensive most parents cannot afford to have one parent staying at home anymore. However, you only work three days a week so that's good. Some states provide payment for day care. At least mine does (IL). What state are you in? Maybe if you work at a hospital, sometimes you can get daycare at the hospital, depends. I just started a new job 2nd shift so I had to look into evening and weekend day care options, which limits me some. But we have 2 years to prep.
Good luck - how far are you in the process? Quote:
