Question Family or friend for Respite care?

We are almost done with our Home Study! My only concern is that they want us to have someone, family or friend, be certified for respite care in case of an emergency. I guess since we are foster/adopting and not straight foster, so for the adoption home study. My father in law said he'd do it, but then I saw the packet they left for him. He has to do just about everything we did, fingerprints, driving records, CPR, health screening. Sheeesh that's a lot to ask someone to do for a just in case situation. We don't plan to leave the child overnight, its just in case of an emergency. Has anyone done this? I guess my question is will they still finish and certify our home study while he's doing it?? Or will they make us wait till its done??

Although I'm not in CA I can tell you that I had to have my emergency care people go through some hoops. It really wasn't that bad. Yes, they did have to be fingerprinted, but they didn't have to have the home inspections and such done. It only took a couple weeks to get it all done.

Wow, that's a lot. Thankfully here my backups (i.e. my parents) just had to have a background check run. No fingerprints or forms to fill out; I just had to submit their names, DOBs, SS#s etc.

I had some people fingerprinted to watch my foster kids. I pay them myself and they don't get any state reimbursements so they did not have to do anything but fingerprints. I don't know if it's different from state to state but in my state they do not have to go through any of the training classes except CPR/BBP to do respite for up to two weeks and get paid.

Ours won't be getting paid, we're foster/adopting so this is essentially the child's future grandpa. But for however long it takes for the adoption to finalize we have to have a certified respite provider for anything over 24 hours. He doesn't have to take classes, except CPR. But he has to do almost all the other paperwork, the fingerprints, driving record, health screening, and more!

Our parents live in Wisconsin and we live in Illinois, so we would probably have to have a respite done then if we want the child to go with our parents. Or we could just take the child on vacation with us to a hotel as long as it is in Illinois, right?
