Question What are the most common things

that usually cause people to fail their fire inspection?

I am all set on smoke detectors, I have one in every room and they are hard wired, and I've measured the bedroom windows and they're all big enough.

I do need to get a fire extinguisher, I only have a 3 lb one, I have to get a 5 lb'er. Other than that, what do you guys think? I don't want to overlook something, and would prefer to pass the first time so as not to slow the process down at all.

i have the same question. i just started the process to adopt and it asked in the profile if i have a fire extinguisher. i know i need to get one and be able to answer yes to it but i don't want to spend the money on one that won't pass the inspection.

As far as the fire extinguisher goes, the only thing that I was told was that it had to be 5 pounds and had to say for ABC type fires on it.

I'm just curious about anything I haven't thought of.
For instance, I think I have to change door knobs on my bathroom door because it locks from the inside. I would never have thought of that.

The best way to know just what they are looking for during your home inspection is to ask your trainer for a list of what you need to have done. Ask about policies regarding exactly what type of fire extinguisher you need, storing of medications, sharp knives, firearms, cleaning solutions, space per child, types of beds that are acceptable (bunk beds are acceptable in some states and not in others), etc.

Good luck to you both.

Welcome to the forums. You have found an excellent place to come to with questions, comments and for people to lend an ear.

We didn't have a seperate fire inspection. The SW just checked to make sure our smoke detectors worked. That's it for us.

For us, it was to make sure that all the fire extingishers were inter-connected and hard-wired and working and that no one could become locked in a room. That was it!
