DCF not very helpful with locating classes....any suggestions?

Hi,
In our state (FL) we need to do MAPP training before we are allowed to adopt through the foster system. Classes are being offered 1 hour south of us during the week (can't get there with DH's work) or on Saturdays two hours north of us.

DCF is not exactly a gem by way of helping us locate something closer. Is there any other way to find/arrange for classes in ones own area or do most people end up driving the 2 hours? DH started a new job so it's hard to request time off at this point. It just seemed odd to us...

You might try contacting your local agency on this list - http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/fostercar...s/contacts.pdf - if you haven't already done so. If you have tried, try the one in the county over from you.

It is frustrating isn't it. Ours was an 1 1/2 hrs away and this was through the private agency. County only offered the classes every 3 months. If you missed the cut then you waited. If there wasn't a couple of people interested, again you waited. Unfortunately your situation is common and just the first of many "issues" you will have with DHS. Not that I am a negative person but realistically dealing with fostering/adoption is an emotional roller coaster. I never thought that there were so many quirks in the system. I hope that you find a class closer to your home. Keep reminding youreself that in the end it will be all worth it. Good luck!
