How will possible cirumstance affect our license?
DH and I are in the process of taking our PRIDE classes. We have finished 3 and have 6 more to go. Extended family circumstances are such that it may come to a point where my IL's have to live with us. FIL just got added to an organ donor/recipient list. Right now the future is very unknown, but something will have to happen in terms of living situation (i.e. sell their home and either 1. come live with us but be several hours from the hospital or 2. rent a place closer to the hospital).
My question is this: If they come live with us, and I'm assuming it will be after the classes are over, then will we have to put our license on hold? I'm thinking we will because of his medical status. I know if they do come live with us and we keep our home open, then they will need to be finger printed. However, we would temporarily close our home anyway, I am pretty sure, because that would be just way way way too much stress. (Trust me, it isn't a situation either DH or I are looking forward to.) Hmmm, would we be able to keep it open to do respite perhaps? I'm just trying to be prepared for anything that might happen. Why does it have to pour? I was okay with a steady sprinkle. Has anyone else delt with this type of situation? |

They would definitely need to be fingerprinted. I know some friends of ours are foster parents too, and there dad came to live with them since he was ill. There was no problem with them taking care of him and fostering kids.
To be sure though, I would check with your agency. Maybe talk with one of the people who give your class.

My dad lived with us when we went for licensing. He had to attend all PRIDE classes, get fingerprinted, do TB tests and have a background check. I would somewhat expect the same for any additional adult that came into the home at a later date. Good luck.

It seems that perhaps, maybe, just possibly we won't have to even worry about this. It all depends on the powers that be, of whom I have no influence over. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I feel like a juggling clown whose boss can't decide if I should be juggling two or three or four balls, so he keeps taking out and adding balls. And just for giggles, they change color and shape regularly. |
