Question "Other" caregivers

My husband and I are going to our fourth class Thursday night. In my packet we have three smaller packets for "other" caregivers. The woman who runs the class said we need at least one person who could take the foster children in case of emergancy. The other packets could be used for daycare. Who did you chose? I can't think of another person. My mom smokes and that is not allowed. My dad has remarried and I have a little brother he is three. And I don't feel I can ask them to. My husbands parents are alot older than mine and are sick alot. WHO DO I CHOOSE? Someone from my class??

We can have background checks run on anyone we would leave our own child with. They are able to come to our home for 3 hrs and watch our foster children or stay with them in case of emergency. I have my sister and a good friend on my list, both of whom live on my street. I have a few people at church I could pick also if I needed them.

I have my sister (who lives with me), 3 neighbors and a niece who can help me out in an emergency.

we are starting out classes this week. I never really thought about this. What are the rules on babysitters....I'm guessing that is out too for your local 16 year old to babysit like we get for our bio kids?

Totally area specific some states/areas require (as pp said) pretty much the same info as they require from us (background checks, fingerprinting etc) while other areas let us use the same people (trusting our judgement of course) we use to watch the bio kids. In my area, my 16 year old sister is ok to watch the kids (although I wouldn't do it there are too many who require too much but you get the idea) for an hour or two. Our area requires respite for anything extended however.

well I'm glad I read this thread. I will make sure I ask question about this. We live a distance from family and were so happy when we found some good sitters in our church I would hate to loss that (although we hardly ever go out)

BTW they did suggest that we use fellow foster parents from our class. Pick a friend that may live close to you and you can call them in case of emergancy. So I guess you should make friends.

I had kind of thought of this but not too much. We live quite a ways from all of our family as well.

"Other" caregivers:

I know Benjamin Linus & Richard Alpert would definately not be good candidates. Maybe Juliet?

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

My wife and I know a 21 year old college student who is respoonsible. Would that do if they come to our house to watch our child? The woman we originally picked has 6 boys and if we get a girl we can't use her unless our we get an infant girl that stays in her bedroom.
