I got a call from my fd's aunt yeasterday. She told me that the girls mom used the girls ss#'s fraudly. The girls have credit cards and electric, other bills under there name. She also said the mom has been cashing the girls ss checks for the past two months. She asked me if there was something I could do to help her. She called the girls sw and the supervisor as well as the lawyer. But no phone call back. She's very upset i would too. Does any one know if there's something that i can do to help her? I don't even know where to start.

This is identity theft and very serious. Call your local District Attorney's office and tell them you want to report identity theft and fraud. Make sure you have their info with you when you call so you can give them as many details as possible.

Also, if the Aunt can give you more details about which credit cards and what electri company, etc, then you can call them and have them stop all billing on those accounts. You will need to provide a copy of the child's placement papers, SS# and such so they know you are telling the truth. I would do this right away.

You can contact the SS office and talk to them about the identity theft also. I don't knwo what they will do, but at least they would be aware.

Is she also using it for government subsidies as well? food stamps, housing, etc?
