got the room ready?

Have you got your future kiddos rooms ready while you wait for your license?

Share pictures!

I'll post mine shortly, but I'm looking for ideas to finish it off!

Yep...we have a bunk bed and a crib ready to go in our spare bedroom (which is quite large). It's minimally decorated at this point because of not knowing gender, kids interests, etc. but would be done very quickly once we know who is coming!

My room is partially done. I have a bed and a pack and play set up. I have ABC border on the walls for a little bit of kid decoration. If I get a call for a toddler, they can sleep in the bed, if I get an infant, they can sleep in the pack and play and then I'll go buy a crib. I have toys, blankets, bottles, sippy cups, and etc., to be prepared. Some stuff I feel like I should hold out on until I get my first call.

I received a call for an infant a month after being certified in November of 2008 and we had to say no...we asked for a child 2 and up...that was really really hard. But our room has been ready but we were not ready or prepared for an infant...we have a twin sized bed, a dresser and lots of toddler toys and a huge playhouse from our older 2 kids. We have the walls painted yellow and have kept everything neutral and plain. When we get a placement we will go out and buy everything we need then. We got rid of all our baby stuff after I had DS 2, so going back would be very hard. Though if we decide to go for another bio child too..then we will HAVE to go back to the baby stuff. LOL I think getting the child's room ready makes it very real. It is exciting but sad to see the room still empty, even though we have not been "waiting"that long.

Wink Nursery with Pics!!

Four years ago we began collecting for the nursery we wanted for our child. After that long of trying and deciding on foster/adopt we decided that we'd get that nursery ready for that child to come home into! We are planning on getting either another crib or a toddler bed to add into the M&M room (pics attached).

1.17.09 002.jpg
The finished product, as of today.

bedding.JPG
There is no M&M bedding. We bought primary red bumper pads, a primary yellow dust ruffle, and a poka-dot crib sheet that had M&M colors incorporated in it.

crib.JPG
Before we moved the crib, showing all the M&M cut outs together.

stuff.JPG
All the stuff we've been given and collected in our four years, amongst everything else we have put up on walls in the room and in the crib

mobile boyds peek a boo.JPG
We used "Boyd's Peek-a-Boo" bears for the mobile, and strung them onto an inexpensive mobile that should have had flowers or something on it.

A lot of what we did was "homemade". I know there is a lot of M&M stuff out for sale in the world but really very little of it connected in what we wanted for a nursery. So, I decopaged a lamp shade, some picture frames, and a few other trinkets (including a wall-coat hanger), and we're working on doing iron on's for drapery. I recently found Avon was selling an M&M fleece blanket and picked one up for $16.99. That isn't in the picture, but it looks just like a large fleece version of the plain M&M candy wrapper!

We're now working on doing a sports room for a young boy (or girl really?). We have a bed and dresser coming this weekend. Anybody know if a futon is considered a bed? We should invest in bunk beds for this room... but oh well!

Til next time folks!

We're having a hard time figuring out what to buy to get the room ready. We are going to be licensed "straight adoption" by April 1st, according to our licensing specialist. She has really been on the ball so far, so we're cautiously hoping for that date to hold.

Anyhow, we are open for 0-12, either gender, up to 2 kids. We would love 3, but until my sister moves out, we don't have the room for more than 2. We don't want to buy a crib as we doubt we'll get an infant. Do we buy bunk beds and hope that the kids are old enough for them? We don't have money to waste on unnecessary furniture, but we want to be prepared, you know?

It sure is fun shopping for stuff, even though we've just been looking and not buying yet.

The crib will be in our room and is precious planet theme.

We haven't gone too far with it. We have very large bedrooms, so we have one with a twin bed and a queen size bed. The queen is certainly overkill, but it's left over from before we were married and we don't want to buy another twin, or bunk beds. We asked for ages 4-7, but would take any 0-9 probably (would just run out and get a crib if we got a call for an infant, and put it in our room at first most likely). We don't want anything too gender specific or too baby-ish, which makes it hard.

i found some vinyl wall things that are monkeys, with ferns and bananas and stuff. i need another one to go with it as it's not enough. We have those wooden words from the craft store that are in greens and yellows mostly that say things like "Dream" and "Hope" and other positive words spread around. Unfortunately our bedspreads don't match (each other or the room colors), nor do the curtains. That will have to wait a little bit as it could be a big cash outlay.

Foster/Adopt Room Preparation

We are closing in on being licensed. I'm the only one left to get a physical. Otherwise, everything else is complete, except the CPR/First Aid, with SW said we can be licensed without but no placement until certified CPR/First Aid.

We are doing the legal risk adoption. And are praying for a newborn girl. I know I know...it's very limiting. But we know what we want. Anyway, I've bought little things here and there and pick up something every time I'm at Target. I finally had the nerve to buy the crib I had been eyeing but it was out of stock. My greatest concern is that I'll buy the crib and have to look at it for a long time, waiting to be filled. Ahh the torture!

What do you think, should I just buy it or what?

Our SW has been very honest with us about our preferences, however because hubby & I are both AA, she thinks we will match up quickly. But of course, can't make any promises.

Thanks for your insight!

I'd totally buy the crib! We bought ours, but aren't setting it up until we get a wee one!

You're so close!

You might want to consider the bunks that can also be two twin beds. That way if they are too young for bunks, you haven't wasted anything...you still have two appropriate beds. I just bought a twin over full that can be separated. It's working great!

We saw some of those a couple nights ago. We hadn't noticed a difference at the first store, but it just popped out at us when we went to a second store. I really like the twin over full, but we don't have sufficient room if we were to seperate them, so I think we're going to go with the standard twin over twin. I'm really having fun with the room preparation.

Ok...you don't have to twist my arm (smile). I really want to buy the crib I just thought it would be slightly torture like to look at it every day as we wait. Ok...thinking positive, we may not have to wait too long. *buying the crib* Woo hoo!

Thanks!

I have the basics. Beds, dressers, linens. If we needed to house children tonight we could. We haven't done any of the decorations, though. I have some shelves, curtains, pictures, that sort of thing. I also have paint planned out but not bought. I feel the same way as NC does about the crib. I don't want to start doing anything that feels like real preparing to look at it lying empty for a long time. I'd rather have unfinished rooms because it feels better that way that we have a long way to go before we bring our children home.
