if you wondered

If you were wondering what PRIDE is... it is the foster/adoption train in Michigan and maybe elsewhere.
PRIDE stands for "Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education"

Our background checks FINALLY cleared, and our licensing packet is on its way to the State licensor today. Because we’ve only lived in our State for a year, we had to get cleared in our old home State as well. Our case worker said it will now take about another 2 to 3 weeks to actually get our license. But we're getting close. Then after we get our license, I can start staring at the phone.

Best wishes for all the waiters to here some good news soon!!!

Hi all! Haven't posted in a while - been busy with other things, but I wanted to pop in and say

My fingerprints came back! (all clear) Woo Hoo! That was a pain having to do them twice, but I'm glad it didn't take forever to get the second set through. What's really odd... I DO have something in my past that should have showed up (had full disclosure with our caseworker and she said it would be no problem) and it did NOT show up! How crazy is that?

Our caseworker had to leave town because of a family emergency so she's given us NINE HOURS of videos to watch online. ugh. We tried hooking it up to our TV but the image is blury when it's that big, so were stuck getting to watch them on the little computer screen. We need to figure out how to set it up so we can at least have comfortable chairs to sit in... LOL

We're almost there! One more meeting/class for our core requirements (12 hrs - out of 27 required - remaining 15 have to be completed within 3 months) and she's finishing the HS right now (typing it out). She's going on vacation next week so she'll get as much done as she can before she leaves and we'll have that remaining class for the core and hopefully we'll be licensed shortly after that!!

After reading another post here it prompted me to ask her if we'll get calls anytime or just M-F business hours. She said anytime. (cool)

She's putting the info for what we're looking for as far as adopting goes (0-3 girl) and then she is also putting emergency placements for 0-3 boy or girl. We don't have a twin bed, so the child would have to fit in a crib or toddler bed, otherwise we would consider older kids for emergency placements.

Just thought I would introduce myself on this thread. We finished our Map classes June 1st and met with our liscensing worker last Tuesday. He is WONDERFUL. It seems like this whole thing is going to take a lot less time than I previously thought because he is on the ball and not into red tape. All we have left to do is fire inpection (scheduled for Tuesday)and get our physicals (also tuesday for me, not scheduled yet for hubby) and then we will be able to send our application into the state. I was told that it would take about a month from the time of sending it in to approval, so we could literally be fostering within 2 months!!! Our lsw said he likes for people to do respite before longer term placements, so it looks like we will start there because I know that at dss here it is really all about the recommendation of your lsw.

Got the Call

Yesterday we got the call from our wonderful caseworker that we are officially licensed as a foster/adopt home! She also had our first referral for a 6 year old little girl! It will be a slow transition from a relative if we get her, I guess we find out for sure today! My boys faces literally lit up when I told them, we are all very excited.

Just FYI for my fellow Colorado potentials: It has been six months since we turned in our initial paperwork. We changed agencies in the middle of the process. I'm sure it could've been sooner if we would have started with the agency we are currently with and if we weren't a military family and had to have background checks from several other states.

My wife and I have been licensed but we are still waiting for the license. Tomorrow we have a meeting with someone from our agency and will inquire about this. That could be why we haven't gotten any calls yet!

I was told they needed to move her to a potential adoptive home and the relative she is with is not interested in the long term committment. She does however wishes to stay in contact with the little one. There are no other relatives to take the child.

Smile waiting

We have been finished with our classes and additional requirements for a few weeks and are waiting on the homestudy to be scheduled. I feel like I'm staring at my phone already...and we aren't even licensed. Maybe this is God's way of teaching me to wait
