Heart We hope to get a phone call soon!

Hey everyone! My husband and I started our "foster to adopt" journey back in January. We got lucky and get into our IMPACT classes in March and we have a class tonight and then a pannel meeting next week where they will have a judge, foster parents, CW, SW, and even some foster kids that we get to ask questions too. Then we are DONE!

I had all the paperwork filled out quickly, our homestudy is done, background checks cleared, fingerprints done, and drug test passed! I have been busting my BUTT to get everything through as fast as possible.

When we completed the homestudy we were told that if kids came into care that they thought would be a good fit for us, they would call. Even if we had a couple of classes left. So I have spent the last 2 weeks holding the phone!

I am so excited! I just hope we dont have to wait too long. I am so impatient

Is there anyone else here who are foster parents or waiting for placement in GA??

We're in GA. We completed our classes in January, and we've been matched with two sisters. Soon, we'll start overnight/weekend visits. We are on the foster-to-adopt journey. So far, so good!

We're waiting for our background check results to come back, and then our homestudy will be complete and can be submitted to the State. We're with a private agency in WA. Best wishes to all the "waiters" for some good news in the coming week!

We start classes May 5. I can't wait! I have no idea what's going to happen at the classes, or even for sure if we qualify at this point, although I assume we do. It sure feels good to be working on this, however slowly.

oh brother - thought I posted this here but I guess it was on the already licensed thread... That thread is frustrating me anyway - people are posting stuff like they got licensed in 2 months and already getting calls or getting placement calls before completing all the paperwork etc. I don't know if it's typos or what, but when I ask about it, they don't answer me - nor do they correct it if it was a typo. (by the way - you don't except a placement.. you accept it. Sorry, but things like that drive me crazy. My mom was an English teacher. LOL )

I posted this last Tuesday:
My fingerprints were rejected -- too dark/too much ink or too much pressure used - ugh. So I got them redone today (thank heavens I kept the receipt and didn't have to pay the city again!) and took them to the agency. Now we sit and wait for another 6 weeks (and pray them come back faster than that). We've had 3 meetings with our CW as a couple and I've had my individual meeting with her. DH still hasn't finished his autobiography (almost done, or so he says...) and she can't do his individual meeting until she has his 'story'.

So, as of today, DH has now been to the Dr (this past Friday) and he's writing more on his autobiography right now. (at least, that's what he's SUPPOSED to be doing down stairs! LOL) Hope he gets that darn thing done today. I think that he thinks he is writing a novel. I read one part of it and there was a LOT of superfluous stuff in there. I told him to "quit waxing poetic" and just get it done. LOL

We have some friends from church who are going with the same agency (straight foster) but they don't want to take any kids before their youngest starts school next year. They're going to do the classes with us and then just wait to do the home study part.

How are everyone elses classes going? Do you think they will be helpful? The classes I have been attending are kind of a joke..... It's pretty much just listening to stories from other FPs about how bad the kids are... But I am only on the 4th class, 4 more to go. I should be finished with classes at the end of Feb. Hope they get better!

Wow...that's sad. I'm already licensced but I couldn't help but poking my head in here . Our classes were very informative, and we felt like even if we didn't foster, they'd have been helpful. What state are you in?

I found out this week that b/c we have lived in our states for < 5 yrs (we've been here 4 yrs and 4 months) we will have to get a background check from our previous state...ugghhh. Fingerprints, health forms and homestudy paperwork done. Now we need to get copies of EVERYTHING (DL, SS cards, marriage license, etc). We have 1 1/2 classes to go...surely we are getting close to the end.

Yeah we are officially a foster family. We got our first big "little" baby "Suri" about 3 1/2 weeks ago. We were told she was 14 months old and then a day later she aged to 26 months. Somewhere between the mom and the social worker they had the wrong birthday. A week later she left and we got our little 7 month old Sweet Pea. She is such a happy, easy baby who will be staying with us until August.

This has been leaving no time for the computer, I've been using those nap times to catch up on chores or even better, sleep! We are still in the process of getting our license for adoption. We have until October before the county stops placing kids in foster homes. We missed the last class we needed because we got "Suri" right before the class.

Sweet Pea is bringing such joy to us. When everyone tells me how hard it will be to give her up and how they could never do it, I just look at her and know because we took a chance on this whole process, we get to be here for her and hopefully later on for many others. This rocks!!!

Best wishes to you as you are working on your process.

I'm pre-licensed (licensed but not child-ready) and am waiting for my official approval for homestudy so I'll be licensed (child-ready)

I'm amazed that some people have homestudies done before classes and such....my homestudy was done after all paperwork was done and my classes were done and ours were 11 classes (11weeks), but on the positive note, once I'm approved, my cw says I'll have children in no time (fost-adopt) due to the need in our county.

Best of luck to those of you who are almost there

Counting the Minutes

Hi all,
We have been in the process of adopting from fostercare since 3/06. After waiting for a match and having a few fall through we decided to foster in hopes of expiditing the process. Then Poof!! we were matched for adoption and things have been a whirl-wind. We are still pursuing our fostercare licensing and it was filed with the state two weeks ago tomorrow. Once it comes back the office hopes to move the children into our home as FC while they are completing the adoption subsidy paperwork. We have our second visit with a sib-ship of 2 at 4PM.
My goodness I think the clock just moved backwards.
