well I finally have a small but positive update

the case manager said she sent out our file and she has no control on when they do things but they should be calling me soon to set up our home inspection which is our last thing to do before approval. I'm praying its soon!

We had our first homestudy visit tonight. It went well. She, as others said, did not look in closets. She went down a list of things as she walked through our home. We need to get a fire extinguisher, get the dog current on her vax (they were due in Jan) and a couple of other minor things (emergency numbers by phone etc) but otherwise it went very well. We are meeting her at her office on Wednesday - I'm not sure if that's to start the classes or just more interview stuff... We'll submit our fingerprint forms to her then and she'll send them off.

We're really on our way! Yay!

We had our first visit on Thursday. She gave us all the paperwork to start and told us that the time frame will depend on us. We possibly have one issue with my DH. He came to the US in June with a visa from Morocco. The state wants a statement from the Embassy there stating that his visa was issued based the absence of child abuse. Of course they don't want to issue anything. We are sending a copy of his criminal certificates from there and a copy of the application stating that the visa application is only accepted with these things. We will be waiting to hear what they decide with that.

Thank you. I really hope that too, but I'm not sending for clearances or anything until they decide for sure. I just don't want to spend the money if this will cause us to not be approved. We should know the first week of March what they say.

Waiting for our anniversary

We have finished the PRIDE class and are waiting on the homestudy process to begin. We will have to wait until our two-year anniversary in mid-April to actually be licensed, though. I'm not sure if I should get the bedroom ready and start buying stuff, or wait until it is closer to time.

I'm Still waiting...question.

Well, we started our classes last May and have completed everything. We've been done since November and were told that she (LW) needed to have everything done by Jan 1st. The last contact I've had with her was before Christmas. I have e-mailed three times since then with no response. Who else can I call to see where we are in the process. I see that I can check the status of our license if we had our license number...but we don't. I am in Michigan if it helps...Who else can I call? Or should I try to e-mail LW again. I know they are busy, but it would be nice to know where we are in the process.

FirstFriends - Email your LW one more time and cc yourself and her supervisor. If there is no response call the supervisor and relay the information that you have given us. There is no excuse for this lack of contact. It is time to get pushy. Polite, but pushy.

We had our homestudy Monday (3/2), and we got a phone call saying that she got it written up on Friday (3/6)!

She just has to have her supervisor approve it then it goes to the county SW to do her follow-up home visit, then we get our license!

Yeah ... We had our homestudy on Friday but they decided not to interview the kiddos. Our SW's will come back on this Friday for that and THEN we should be final next week. They checked the temp of the fridge and the water in the kitchen. And everything else they checked from the couch! All that cleaning(!) it needed to be done anyway - LOL My daughter actually cleaned her room too!

I know my son was a little worried about being "interviewed" so I tried to put him at ease letting him know that first of all there were no wrong answers. They wanted to know about his daily life, his goals for the future (I told him I wasn't expecting that one & I had no answer for it myself - a little bit of a wrong answer!), and then they would let him know what he might expect when we start fostering. Then he let me what his answers might be. How lame our family was, the worst parts being Mom, Dad, and Sister. "Did I want to know more or why we suck? To bad." I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to Friday. I hope the little monster gets up on the right side of the bed!

And people think I'm crazy for being a "baby" person??

We are to start our classes March 21....4 1/2 Saturdays then the homestudy then license. Our contact from DHS was at a ministerial meeting DH attended yesterday making the plea for ministers to ask their congregations to consider fostering b/c of th need. So I am hoping that means he won't dillydally around about getting things done once we complete classes.
