Another snag

An email from our caseworker's supervisor today said that our caseworker will have to get "correct" background checks.

Does this mean that they requested the wrong type of background check? Or maybe they got them for the wrong people?

We did our fingerprints in September. Does anyone have any insight?

Could be. I wonder if they have to re-do them because they have to be less than x number of days old?

If that turns out to be the case, i will be so majorly upset. They already twiddled their thumbs long enough for our car insurance to expire (we had, of course, gotten it renewed, but that added a few weeks to our time frame). If they twiddled their thumbs long enough for the background check to expire, wow! i will be beyond upset!

But, i'm withholding judgment on that until i actually find out what it means.

You have the right to be really upset either way! Whether it expired or wasn't the right kinda of background check they ordered. I am so sorry this is happening to you. I hope things speed up!

I hope the final result is a beautiful baby in your arms...and all the stress they're putting you through now becomes a distant memory.

Heart

I had to get background checks requested for the state I live in and the past state I've lived in. I knew I was getting impatient with the length of time it was taking to get licensed, but I had no idea that my caseworker had been waiting for my out of state background check to come in for 2 MONTHS! Thank the Lord (really) that they finally came through this week.

Who knows what they meant by "correct" background checks! But I do know this process takes WAY longer than you, I, or any other soon-to-be foster mom/dad wants it to take. I couldn't believe how many times I got emails saying, "I only need one more thing" and she would ask for another form or signature!

I hope this gets straightened out soon for you! God can definitely teach patience through this! At one point, you will be licensed, honest! You will get through this!

What do you mean by "area"? We've lived in our home for 2 1/2 years, and before that we lived in other homes (DH had his apartment and i had a rental home). i moved from another city in the same state about 3 1/2 years ago, and before that i lived in a house there for 5 years.

So i would be the lowest common denominator, so to speak, because i've lived in one place a shorter amount of time. i've lived in the same state my whole life (so has DH), but haven't lived in the same home or even city for 5 years.

i really just want them to tell us, and most importantly not make us wait weeks or months to tell us that we need to get our fingerprints taken again. Which they probably would.

Got a response

The response from our caseworker's supervisor was that our caseworker filled out our background check forms correctly, but that whoever physically did the background check (the state contracts with a private agency) misspelled one of our names and has to run our background checks again. We were told we don't have to go get our fingerprints run again. Time will tell, i suppose, but i fear it will be a lot of time...

i love that she was careful to point out that the mistake was not caused by our caseworker. But why did it take almost 4 months for someone to notice this clerical error?

I can't explain why the agencies take so long to realize mistakes but we had three delays associated with background checks. Hope it clears up quickly though.

Turns out what they told us originally wasn't even the truth. Our caseworker did mess up. She only checked the box for the DCS background check and not the one for the criminal background check, too.

Another 7-10 days, but i'm not holding my breath on that.

Good luck to you !!! I know all about the waiting process as we are there ourselves. My husband and I have been in the process since mid 2007. We were told that everything was ready and we were approved in early/mid December and then in the last 5 days were told that there was another background check document that the agency needs from the state.

Go figure! Hope it works out for you soon.

2nd background check

I submitted everything by 12/22/08 and they did nothing so as of 1/09 new rules applied. I had to get one more personal reference and a background check for a city I lived in 3 years ago. Do you know how long this will take? I'm in Florida.
