I really hate to keep calling my sw I know it's the first week of the year, and with the holidays sw is no doubt busy, but I wanted to see if we are in the system to get our license, I found a state 800 numbers for foster parents, my question is does a state have a number where you can check to see if your license is in the system to be issued by the way I am in the state of IL ??????????

i think you're going to have to keep calling, or get your hands on an email address and try that way. (Some sw's prefer to get email instead of phone numbers). i've been calling since October on mine (we had our home visits in September and were told it would be submitted mid-September, so mid-October i started calling). i called every few weeks until i kept getting the run around, then we started emailing and copying the supervisor. It finally *appears* to be moving, but even the supervisor was sitting on her hands for a long time.

Sigh. i know it's the holidays and that's really fine. i would be 100% fine with it if they would answer my phone calls/emails with "We've been really busy with x, y, and z and we've had to sort of back burner your home study because we don't have a lot of need for your age group [or whatever the case is] but when things settle down we'll move forward on processing it soon."

What i'm *not* okay with (and all i've gotten so far) is, "i'm submitting it on Friday." Then a couple of weeks go by and i hear "i'm submitting it tomorrow." Then a few more weeks go by and i hear "i submitted it several weeks ago." Couple more weeks go by "Oh, yeah, i submitted it a month ago." Few more weeks go by and the supervisor says "Your caseworker just gave me your folder today."

If the caseworker had said 2 or 3 months ago, "Things are really busy but i'll turn it in before the holidays", i would be much less stressed right now lol. But now i'm stressed because i've had to hold their hand through the whole thing AND get lied to. i can't say i *never* lie because that wouldn't be completely honest but i *almost* never lie, i make it a policy not to lie, and it really bothers me even to tell a white lie so i avoid even that. So being lied to is far worse to me than just being blown off would have been.

877-800-3393 This is the number for the DCFS office of training in IL. They have access to everyone's license information, training hours etc. The problem is getting anyone to answer or call you back. I had the number of an actual person downstate it was 217- something I will look for it today.

You should check your state's DHS webpage and see if there's a link to check the status of your license. We were able to log on, type in our license number, and see that we had been licensed 2 weeks before we got our hard copy.

Thanks MPJJJ, but I just found out, my paper got approve, and we will be sent off today, hopefully I should get my license in 2-3wks, woo hoo!!!!

Now the wait begins!!!!!!!

So my question is, since I am going with a private agency, and the sw told me this week I am approved, do I have to wait, for all of my paper work to get process from the state dcfs office which in in Springfeild IL , before my phone will ring for a placement? or should I have my cell phone on now 24/7?

I don't know, about the calling before your lic is in hand but wanted to say congratulations! we aren't too far behind that. all we need is the inspection and for them to submit it for approval.
