Our FP journey has finally begun!

Just a week after finding out our paperwork hadn't been submitted properly, the foster parent worker called today to say all our background checks are in and great, so we have our next interview on Nov 19th, to discuss all the members of our family and decide if we can progress to the foster parenting classes.

I feel excited and scared! But, after raising my boys, doing daycare, teen mom & respite care, taking in street kids and more - there's not too much they could throw at me that would surprise me.

I can't wait to start baby "shopping" - I already have a stack of baby supplies & formula I've gotten as freebies - just got the tiniest freebie Huggies diaper in the mail today, so I guess it was a good omen. As we get closer to being licenced, I will be checking out Freecycle and the 2nd hand shops.

I sooo know what you mean about being excited and scared. I told my friends that I'm scared that I won't get approved and scared that I will. But I will finish my preservice training this week. I still haven't had a home visit yet and I haven't gotten my background checks back either. I don't know if the agency sent them off yet or not because they use the classes as a weeding out process for people who aren't that committed anyway. I suppose it does save money because we have to get 3 different clearances that the agency pays for. I'm open to either a boy or girl although the bedroom I'm planning on using is already set up for a girl. I think I will wait for the home visit though before redecorating it (i was going to give it a gender neutral makeover) since the agency might already have an idea of who my 1st placement will be.

Congratulations!

In TN, you have to attend classes first before they do the background checks, etc. We have completed 5 of 12 classes and turned in our application and fingerprinting documents. We're ready for our first homestudy, but I'm not sure how soon they will do it. I've already started shopping a little bit. I'm trying not to ask our cw too many questions because I don't want to annoy her, BUT I AM SOOOO READY for more things to be done. Again, congratulations!

Here in Ontario, they won't let you do anything till you pass the background check, then they have an interview with you to decide if they even want you.

All my friends say they would be crazy not to want me, so I hope they are right!

Congratulations! I was supposed to start classes in November, but they gave me the wrong info, so I won't be starting until January. Oh well, just more time to prepare. Good luck to you, although you sound like a pro already.
