Question Foster to adtop placement in the works ...7 meetings

We are certified foster parents in WI and in WI you have to complete PACE before a placement. We have been working at things for almost a year now and currently have a placement foster to adopt in the planning stage. It takes 7 meetings that are progressive and begin on Sunday before we will be fostering. Has anyone done things this way? What should we try to accomplish and how should we do so?

These meetings with are soon to be foster child....what should we be doing to make them the best they can be.

The child is 3 years old with medical needs. Since I have plenty of personal experience with medical problems myself they think we can really help him. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Are they having you go through these 7 meetings with the child because you still have some PACE classes to attend?

Over how long a period of time will the 7 meetings take place? Does it start with 1 per week and then move to multiple or are they over a period of 7 weeks?

If your experience with medical issues is of the same type as this little one has I can see why they would think that you would be a good match. Regardless, the fact that you have experience(d) medical issues yourself will help you to be mroe empathetic.

Good luck.

I don't know what to tell you about the meetings. You may want to talk with your cw and ask, point blank, what the schedule for the 7 meetings is. Good luck.

The schedule as it is now is that on Friday the child will come here with the CW for 2 hours. Than on Sunday into Monday spend the night....than thursday to Saturday, Wednesday to Saturday, and Tuesday to Saturday, than the next Tuesday he becomes our placement.

That makes more sense. What they are talking about is transitioning. I am assuming that this is for an adoptive placement, not strictly fostering. Is that correct?

If for adoption it is normal to transition like this. If for straight fostering it is something that I've never heard of.

Good luck. If you have questions or need support for his specific medical issues you might try the Special Needs forum, in addition to keeping us posted.
