Wink My friend and I looked like...

Lucy and Ethel on Sunday.

I had found a daybed with mattress on Craigslist. I told the fella who was selling it that I would pay him extra to deliver it if he had a truck. He sterning replied, NO.

Anyway, my friend drives a Mazda Tribute and we both thought it would fit and her husband agreed. So, she and I go to pick up the bed and needless to say, IT DID NOT FIT. The man who sold me the bed put the mattress and the metal bed spring on the luggage rack and TIED IT DOWN WITH ONLY TWO bungee cords. We should of known better, but we figured if she drove slow we would eventually make it home by nightfall. Well...we did minus the mattress. We were on I35s, 9 miles from my apartment. The bungee cord in the front snapped and all of a sudden we heard a choir of car horns. The metal springs raised up like a toupee in the wind and the landed on the back on the fifth rear door. The second rear bungee cord kept in front falling to the ground. We were driving on the far right hand lane with the flashers on and the mattress FLEW in the air and landed in the third lane. The cars behind us were slamming breaks, running over the mattress, ducking the mattress, and this was in 3pm heavy Sunday traffic. We were so embarrassed. We pulled over, my friend got on the phone crying to her husband. I got out and was trying to get the springs under control and miracuously it fitted in the back of her SUV. Folks were still blowing their horns. I was looking awful, I had been cleaning all morning and I just left the house without changing clothes or touching up my hair.

After we got home, my friend told me that she noticed I had cat hair on my shirt and said that she would "shower" me with a new mattress and that my children do not need to sleep on a a used mattress. Yesterday, she and another friend went and purchased another mattress.

I am a firm believer that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. I am truly Blessed.

Ah, the memories. You've got me flashing back to helping my then 19 year old sister in law stuff all of her worldly goods into the back of our tiny hatchback Ford to transport her from college back to her parents' house. That included a few laundry baskets full of her clothing crushed in at the last minute. Needles to say, as we were driving down a major road through town that night the hatch of the car burst open and all of her clothing went flying down the road behind us and into traffic. So we all went ducking and dodging through traffic trying to collect her clothes in the dark.

We've all had those days, I guess. Welcome to the club, Lucy!
