intake last friday

Ok so the intake person came out on Friday and I think everything went well!!! We filled out paperwork and talked for about 3 hours. They said once they get all the paperwork done on their end, they would send us for our finger prints. Does anyone know how long that usually takes? Once those come back, the intake person and the case worker will come out together to have another meeting and double check the house, and then we are good to go!! I am so excited! I wish there was something I could do to move things along! I want to start setting up the room but DH wants to wait a little longer oh well I guess I just have to be patient!!

Our fingerprints took 4 weeks to come back.

I would tell you to go ahead and get basic furniture that will accommodate the kids you are being certified for (babies, school age, boys, girls, etc). I would also start picking up stuff if you don't have any children now, like puzzles, coloring books, crayons, etc that children of various ages can do or use. We also got board games, uno, leggos, etc. I woudl also make sure you have a kids extra toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo/condition, brush/comb, etc. Maybe everytime you go out, pick yourself up a giftcard for target, walmart, etc. this way when you have a placement, use the giftcards to buy necessities and you aren't spending all the money at one time unexpectedly.

Good luck!

Our fingerprints took less than 3 weeks to come back.

You should start getting the room ready. With our agency, they wanted to see the room was ready to go before we got the license, and we were asked to take a baby before we were licensed. They knew the baby would be moving to a home about the time we were expected to get the license, but we had to decline due to his medical needs. So you never know how soon that call will come!

We also started getting things together that kids would need:toys, bath supplies, clothes( a few necessities in each age range), etc. By having the room ready we could take advantage of buying something when it was on sale and storing it in the room.

Congrats on your journey. Sounds like things are really moving along!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think iam going to wait until we get the paper work for the finger prints before we go any further, but once that is done we will start re-arranging the house. We are moving my office to the basement and making my office the baby's room.

Check to see if your state has no paper fingerprints (your fingerprints go right into a database). I got my results in seven days.

I know that they do them electronically. I had them done about a year and a half ago but it still took a few weeks for them to come back.
