I am licensed 0-12. I have had 15 mo and 10 weeks, 2 yr old and 6 yrs, twin 3 days old, and 3 yr old.

With the exception of the 6 yr old, all have been less than school age. I'm single and work full time. I think in my area it is who's open and willing.

When our SW came for the home visit, we explained to her that we're only comfortable with 0-4, bc that's the age we'd like to adopt. We've never parented before, and I hope to homeschool, so I want the child to come home before they've already gotten used to school.

I've been told they try to intimidate you into accepting kids they have the most need for (in our case, teens) and try to tell you that no babies are available, but you never know, and you don't want to do more harm than good by bringing in a child you can't handle and having them have to be moved. That's not fair to the child.

So while we're waiting to become officially licensed, I plan to accept only kids 0-4.

okay so when i did the mapp classes they told us that newborns hardly ever come into foster care you generally get school age children.

My worker told me that they have hardly any toddler/child placements right now but have lots and lots of infants so I guess it all depends on where you live.

I would say ask for what you specifically want, you will get calls for others and then you can decide case by case if it fits your family at that time. I would say definitely now your limits, because CW are sometimes desperate and I don't think it is ever good for a child to have to move, so don't be afraid to say no.

You never really know. We initially said that we were only interested in teens. Our first placement was 3. The next one was 11 months. Now we have switched and said that we only want kids younger than our son, now 4 (the one who came at 11 months). Third placement was 5 months and fourth was 8 months.

It will also depend on how your county/agency handles things. Talk with your CW.

Good luck.

My specialty still remains with teenage girls that is who I have worked the closest with in therapy and mentoring so I cannot wait to be able to open my home further! But to answer your question with my range I have recieved 10 placements a 3m boy and 2yo boy sib set, a 5yo boy, a 3m boy (still have), a 2yo boy, a 2day old boy, a 17m boy and a 4yo boy sib set (still have) so even though I will take older they have used me for the very little! So, I guess you never know. Honestly it is normally whoever has a bed open at the right time regardless of what you wanted in the begining! (I really need a girl!!!)

Yep, that's the answer. You will get a call for whatever age child(ren) they have sitting in their office at the time they call you! Could be 2 month old twins, ya never know! Good luck.
