Okay so I just posted that we had completed our foster/adopt homestudy--all we needed was our fingerprinting and to make a couple copies--we did our fingerprinting today and ....our cw asked if we would be interested in a 6 month old that had been taken into care over the weekend! We should have her in about 3 weeks!!! I am so excited. We have been told this is going to be a reunification situation and that she will be with us for about 4-6 months..
...so start your advice-- What do I need to know!

Well,I guess, 1. are you set up for an infant? If not, do so by going to yard sales over the next couple weekends. 2. If this will be a reunification, will you be attending visits with the mom? If so, try to bond with mom as much as possible...if she has had the baby before, ask her what the baby likes, dislikes, schedule, feedings, developmental milestones, etc. Share with her as well, new likes, dislikes, schedule, feedings, etc. Tactfully try to "mentor" her and encourage any and all appropriate parenting moments. If she finds you non-threatening, you will be better able to assist her during the transition and perhaps afterwards to make the ru successful. Good Luck!

You mean, you just had the finger prints taken and they already have your approval back? You are lucky indeed. It took about 4 months for the FBI to do our background check to find out that we are squeaky clean. Congrats!

We had our fingerprinting on Wed. the sw said that as long as everything comes back fine, we will be welcoming baby girl. FBI results are due back on Monday at the latest Tuesday...4 months waiting would kill me--lol!

Just wanted to add that I spoke with the cw again today, and the tenative date of placement will be Aug. 1st--What a busy couple weeks we have ahead of us!

My advise is that even though they say reunification is 4-6 months be prepared for anything and everything. Our kids were suppose to be with us 1 month while mom got some stuff straightened out and then they were going to reunified. 18 months later we are looking at an adoption possibility.

A friend of ours got a baby and were told they would have him for 6m-1year. He went home after two weeks.

The Sw can speculate timeframes, but they are not always accurate. My advise is to enjoy the time with the baby and be prepared that things in the case plan can change anytime.
