question
My husband and I currently have no kids of our own, and we are younger (I am 22 and he is 25). Do you think that they look down on our age group becoming foster parents? And also that we havent had children of our own? I have been around children all my life, i work at an elementary school and have worked in 2 day cares. I also have siblings that are 4 and 6. We really just want to help a child in need and make there life alittle better even if for only small amount of time. Thank you again for all your helpful answers.

Some states have age minimums. Just call your local foster licensing office and find out.
Good luck!

It depends on how long you have been married. My husband is 22 and I just turned 21 and we have been foster parents for 9 months. We have no children of our own yet either. Just see the mininium age in your state. Good Luck with everything. Any questions feel free to PM me.

I think overall the minimum age is 21. So you guys will be fine. Good for you guys to even thinking about being foster parents.
Good luck!

As long as you meet the state minimum age requirement (either 18 or 21), your age will not prevent you from becoming approved. Also, being first time parents will not prevent you from becoming approved. Most likely, they will just want to see what time of support network you have in place and discuss your parenting approach/styles. They will capture this type of information in your profile and the additional details like working with children and having younger siblings can/will be included.
Good luck!

We were 20 and 26 when we started fostering (AND WE WERE NOT AND STILL ARE NOT MARRIED) not that has any relevence to your case, just a soap box of mine. In any case the laws in each state very on the minimum age, either 18 (like our state) or 21 like other states. WE actually had a 7 mos old but I know a couple that was young 21/24 and had no children who started fostering last year. Also I know two single foster mom's in their mid-20's that had no problem getting licensed. As long as you can satisfy the rest of the requirements (adequate income, safe home, adequate space, clear criminal records, ect) I doubt it will be an issue.
One thing you might consider is looking at the types of kids (ages/issues) you are comfortable parenting. We decided because I am still in my 20's that teenagers may not be the right fit for us, however I know a few young foster parents that handle teenagers well. We also decided that medically fragile would be okay since I am an RN, however if I was a single parent I might feel like that committment was too much. Good Luck
