Question Would it be wise to get started on the required training...

I just wanted to get some feedback about this. As you all know, there are required classes for us to take in children from infant to 9, which happens to be our age group.

We went threw our orientation class, filled out the required paperwork and mailed it all back in. So I'm sure they are being worked on (soon I hope). In any case, we do have these required classes, SIDS, shaken baby syndrome and car safety, that have to be taken before we can recieve a child in our home. Would any one recommend doing the classes before we meet with the CW for the first time or should we wait?

The class dates are coming up and I don't want to have to wait until the next quarter or go to a different county if we don't have to. So would it be in our best interest to take the classes now or wait to get direction from the CW?

It's different everywhere. We went to an info meeting and the classes started two weeks after that. We showed up and began classes. Paperwork was done as the classes progressed. By the time classes were done, we had filled out all the home study paperwork plus some, done fingerprints, and home inspection, etc.

Our application had to be approved first and then we received a letter letting us know the dates, times, and locations of available classes beginning soon in our area. We had to call and sign up for the location/dates we chose so that all our paperwork would be with the trainer and kept in our file for the HS, etc.

I think I would check first before beginning any classes just so that they are counted and you don't have to re-do them and feel like you wasted time, kwim?

If you're allowed to start them, then do it by all means. Here, we can take them any time. As you've noticed, the classes are not continually offered and they do take a couple of months to complete, so having them done ahead of time will make placement go faster.

Good luck.

for the direction. It seems like it would be in our best interest to call and find out what we can do. Thanks you all
