during maap

How long does it take to get licensed after you complete your maap training? I know you have 3 homestudies and then what? Does it depend on your worker on how fast you get accepted?

Like everything else in foster care, the answer to this is it depends. In our state we had the homestudy visits (one study, several visits), then we needed to be fingerprinted and that was sent to the FBI, so we had to wait on that to be returned. Then we had to have our health and safety inspections. All of our kids had to be interviewed. We had to get CPR certified. We had all kinds of updates on pet vaccinations. The folks who gave us references had to submit their paperwork, and in the midst of all of that our pastor passed away from cancer and my MIL came to stay for the summer. After the homestudy the worker has to type up the study and it gets presented to the agency for approval. For us, it took 5 months.

On the other hand, some friends from our PRIDE class who were seeking adoption had everything completed and had found their daughter within 2 months of the class.

It's not about how long it takes, although it feels like it at the time. It's just about what needs to happen to make sure everything is right.

Agree w/above poster. It depends. For us it has been sometime. See the timeline below.....

I just keep telling myself that things happen for a reason and GOD has a child in mind for us at his pace.

Definitely depends. We started at the end of 2007 and still do not have our license. However, other members of our class have their first placements. Also a dear friend in another state who started his classes after us has his first placement; three-week old twins! We were told ours was put on hold when two families wanting to adopt teens stepped forward and were given priority over us. We're supposedly next.

Like GAMOM75, I'm thinking there's a reason for the delay. (Giving the teens a home and giving us a bit of a break.) R is off to Grandma's for a month and we're "dating" again. Calm before a storm? Maybe. I'm just going to continue enjoying uninterrupted time with DH while it lasts.

It's so strange because i'm in my last maap class and i've asked if they do fingerprints and if the firefighters have to come to my home and stuff like i have read on some of these forums and they said no. All i need is my reference checked and my 3 home studies it's so weird to me how other states have different rules for the same thing. thank you all

For us, start to finish... including MAPP class it was about six months. We were really fast with our paperwork during the class. Did fingerprinting right away. Were totally on top of getting medical and pet vaccines done. Our paperwork was done early November and it was another two months for the state to process. Our agency had to push on them, it seemed like everyone was either going on vacation or left the agency.
Hang in there... it is worth it to take care of the children.
