I was told that biodad passed out from drugs and alcohol in the waiting room while she was being born so he wasn't really an option. Let's hope that holds true.

My daughter was born at 34.2 weeks. She was perfectly healthy and didn't need go NICU at all. She is now 5 and has had zero setbacks. My oldest and youngest were both born at 36 weeks and my son was born at 37 weeks. They are all perfectly healthy. I am praying your daughter has the same experience.

Wow, time sure has flown. Peanut has been with me for 2 weeks now and things are going well at home.

I met birthmom at a meeting and I feel sorry for her because she is either too drug addled or doesn't have the capacity to understand why they took Peanut from her. She has failed both of her weekly drug screens and I'm pretty sure that she has come to at least one visit smelling of drugs because the baby's blanket had a weird chemically smell when she came home.

Bio GM (who wanted to be considered for a relative placement but wasn't deemed suitable for the other kids) has missed at least one visit and skipped the family meeting, so I am hoping that this is a sign that interest is waning on her part.

Our first court hearing since the placement is next week so at that point I will know more.

Best of luck with your first hearing. Baby Girl sounds like she is in the best hands possible.

Sorry for the absence things have been busy around here! Peanut is doing well. The hearing went as to be expected mom denies doing drugs despite failing all of her drug tests and dad isn't getting out of jail anytime soon. They both thanked me for taking such good care of her. Mom and I have a cordial relationship and she told the sw that she likes me so hopefully I won't have any trouble out of her.

The judge was visibly angry at them and told them not to have any more babies until they could take care of them. Mom hasn't done any of the court ordered things and the judge added paying a nominal weekly child support payment to the mix. Dad was ordered to do same rehab/psych eval/etc as mom if he gets out of jail.

CW says she thinks that mom will just disappear after a while. Peanut is 6 weeks old this weekend and mom has yet to pass a drug screen. Tremors are improving, reflux got worse as she gained weight (but it's getting better with new meds and her appetite is good), and some irritability has kicked in (doc says it is to be expected with drug exposure but in her experience it usually passes in a year or so).

I am so shocked that friends and family are so receptive and are sending and making her such great presents. She has 2 new (beautiful) quilts and countless new handknits. She is one stylin' little princess!

Congratulations on your placement. It's fun to have a new baby. Exhausting but fun. I love the bonding. Enjoy that sweet angel and let her know how much you love her.

Wow, those 2 weeks flew right by and things have been busy around here. Peanut is growing like a weed and we have started physical therapy to help loosen some her muscle tightness. She is not a big fan of that.

She is 2 months old already and turning into quite the little personality. BD has officially been removed from the picture by the penal system and mom is telling every social worker, case worker, and transport person that will listen that she wants to relinquish her rights to the Peanut and that she wants me to have her! She also wants an open adoption (which I also want...under the right circumstances).

We have a team meeting coming up soon so we'll see if she says this again in front of all involved.

Wish me luck!

Another Update

The peanut is growing like a weed and growing more beautiful each day. birthmom stated in the last meeting (again) that she wants me to adopt PP. CW is not sure if the judge will let her sign off before the 6 month permanency hearing, but we shall see. Since then birthmom missed 3 visits in a row and has now had her visits suspended. She seems to have taken herself out of the picture. As far as I know none of the team members have heard from her. There is another group meeting set for next month, maybe she'll come back into the picture by then because they are wanting to charge her with contempt of court and toss her in jail.
