Our Home Study - Update

I thought I'd post this to share with the others who are waiting for their home study to be completed. I've just encountered a situation which has caused our CW to temporarily set aside our home study.

We started our classes in January. Finished in Feb. The home study visits, genogram, ecogram, background checks and references were all completed in March. We're currently just waiting for the CW to write up her analysis of all this and present it for our license. We were told this would only take a few weeks.

In April, one month after our last visit with her, I sent her a note to just touch base and reiterate our availability for additional questions. She responded that she was writing our report up that week. Sweet!

In the meantime, our R has been diagnosed with ADHD and Disruptive Behavior Disorder. Now that we have the diagnosis, we're working to set up the necessary resources for him. It has been a month since my last communication with the CW. I emailed her to update our home study with R's diagnosis and the addition of his psychologist, IEP team, etc to our ecogram. She responds that she'll update the records and explains that she had to temporarily shelve our study because two families have stepped forward to adopt teens. These families are being fast tracked so the kids can be placed ASAP.

Honestly, DH and I think it is a great reason for our study to be shelved. We're really happy for the teens involved in these cases and pray it all goes well for them.

I just wanted to share because I don't know that every CW lets you know why yours might not be done yet. Sometimes, it seems, there's a really good reason. By good, I mean that kids are going to be placed sooner as a result of the prioritization.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sure that you have given some of us pause to rethink why our homestudies may not be completed.

I just received an email from my adoption worker today. She was scheduled to come out this Friday to finish the update of my homestudy, but will be unable to make it. She explained that something has come up (I do know what, but don't feel able to share) so she needed to reschedule it for next Friday. I completely understand. I know that she would do the same thing (reschedule someone else) for me if needed.

What's a genogram and ecogram? I've never heard of those before.

They are support trees for friends and family (kind of like family trees). Mine were done as a part of my homestudy.

You guys have all been much luckier than me! I wish I was working with your agencies. I had to take all of my training, fill out all of my paperwork, get fire inspections, gas leak tests, health inspections, Vet records, and prepare by getting all of the items I would need for my age group. Then they would do my home study. They did it...denied. Now all of my training is null and void and has to be redone if I want to try again. They made all of the fuss that the homestudy was to be done last, not worried about the emotional, time, and finanicial investment that we were putting out there. They didn't even send it to the state. They could have saved us a lot of emotional time by being honest. If you guys have time say a pray for us that we can find our little girl soon..This is the longest year of my life!!!

May I ask WHY your homestudy was denied?

Apparently the agency didn't approve of her church.

Hmmm. Never heard of that being a big issue before. I should have checked her previous posts. I have been away from the site lately. I feel out of the loop. Gotta go catch up!
