Hey, everyone. I would like to get one or two cans of formula in case we get our first placement in the middle of the night.. What types have worked well with your placements? Is there a particular brand I need to stay away from?
Thanks! MC |

If you go and sign up at the similac website, they will send you a sample can of the regular and soy based formula they make. They will also send out coupons from time to time.

If your planning to do WIC, then go with Enfamil. Thats the brand they use, that way the baby does not have to go through a change. Similac is the same, but some babies just the littlest change can cause tummy probs.

in AL wic provides similac and isomil. To get anything else we have to have a prescription from the child's dr. I keep similac, isomil and enfamil on hand. Just pay close attention to the expiration dates. I wouldn't buy more than 1 can of powder of each. It comes in hand for those late night placements, I recently got a 2yr old and 2 month old at 10:30p.m. My other fs was obviously already in bed and being a single parent i would have had to drag all 3 boys to wal-mart had i not had my stash.

I don't know, but you can call your local WIC office and they will tell you.

You can just go to the grocery store and look at the formulas. The wic ones will have a WIC label on them.

It was my understanding that the workers would bring some to you with the children. We only had a few hours notice for our current placement, but they came with a case of diapers and some pullups.

it depends on your county, your worker, and what they have stock piled at their office. i only got diapers once, from the hospital, never from a worker, but i did always have one worker who brought the child a gift every time he came..sometimes a toy, sometimes an article of clothing. another time i had a worker come to pick up a baby that was being RU with mom, she asked me for a can of formula to send with him, i didn't have one, but i told her what kind it was, and she was going to the store to buy a can! lol. so again, it depends. in our agency they told us, be prepared, bc you never know where the child is coming from or how much notice even the worker had about the baby. |

Along with signing up with similac on-line you can do the same with Enfamil and they will send you a can. I recommend the Gentlease with Enfamil because even if it isn't what they are used to using a baby can easily tolerate this particular formula until you can get their normal formula the next day.
I also signed up with Huggies, Pampers, and Luvs giving them a birth date for both a newborn and a year old. They each sent me one sample size of a newborn diaper and then a few months later the next size up along with a typical size for the one year old and then a few months later the next size up... I also got better coupons than the ones that come in the mail. If I had an emergency placement that wore a size I already had a couple of then I was prepared at least until the next morning. Also... contact your doctor's office and ask them for a few cans of different formula's. It wasn't until my foster child's WIC checks were stolen (with my purse) that I found out the different formula company's are always sending samples to the pediatrician's office.
