How to handle first placement of 2 yr old?
Our first foster placement will be a 2 yr old boy. How should we greet him when he comes? I don't want to overwhelm him or scare him. Do the social workers have a certain way of introducing them to the new home? Do I show him his room or will that scare him? I am worried about how to handle the situation when they first come. Any suggestions?

When my girls were placed with me I only had a two hour notice. There were not talking yet or walking and all I could do was hold them until they stopped crying. I just kept telling them that it was ok to cry and ok to be scared. I held them until they wanted to get down and explore themselves. They were a 15 months old. I had a few toys sitting out where they could find them, and a sippy cup of juice and a snack. This helps the adjustment, kids love toys and to explore. Good luck, just remember to breathe and relax. I am sure everything will be all right.
