First possible placement!!

We got a call Monday about a 2yr old boy for our first possible placement!! We have been waiting for over a year and are very excited to jump on in there and do this! I guess I can't believe it until they bring the little guy to my door. I have so many things I am thinking about: What should he call us? Should I take some days off work for him to get to know me or start him in daycare immediately? We are just so excited and i had to share.

Congrats!!

Regardless of what you call yourself, he'll probably call you Mommy. At his age, a woman doing a Mommy's job is Mommy. I would definately recommend taking some time off from work (if it's at all possible) to get him settled before starting daycare. Good luck to you!! Two is such a great age!

Is this strickly a foster placement or a adoption placement?

It really depends on what type of situation it is. You will find that that 2 year olds usually automatically go to some form of Mama or Mom and Dada or Dad. You might have to take a day or two off just to get things straightened out, like daycare and get everything you need.

In my experience all the kids called me either Mom, Mama, or Mommy. I never pressed this on any of them. I think little kids just need Moms, so whoever is acting in that position is "Mama" for that time.
Good luck

Friday

They might be bringing him Friday!! We are so excited! We finished getting the room ready last night and now just wait. Can anyone think of any last minute things we might need? I think we have most of the bases covered and what we don't have, we can easily run out and get.

Diapers/Pull ups, sippy cups, baby wipes (I use these like crazy for wiping faces, wiping messes, changing diapers, etc..), a couple kid friendly DVD's like Bob the Builder, Dora the Explorer or Diego, a nightlight, a raincoat in size 3 (I always, always, always forget to get a raincoat for the new child and then I wake up one morning and it's pouring outside), kid friendly snacks like applesauce, graham crackers, animal crackers, etc.

I love getting ready for a new child. A quick trip to Target should take care of any last minute things.

Next Friday

They will be bringing him next Friday! I guess that will give us more time to get anything else we might need, and to get mentally prepared. We can also find out what he likes and get those things too. Waiting a whole week seems like forever but we'll make it. Thanks everyone for your responses.
