It's a good thing we don't have any rules like that here. That seems beyond weird. We just recently bought and assembled new bunk beds for my DDs room. We took her old twin out and put it up in my DSs room. It was perfect timing for adding beds. We called our CW and the placement person right away to let them know that we have beds for up to 8 kids now. They didn't take long at all to fill them.
Currently we have 7.Jess

Adoption Information

I talked with the county supervisor last night. She indicated that the information that the assessor gave in the class was incorrect.
1. I can move furniture as I please in the house, so long as I do not displace a family member from their bed in order to give a foster child a bed (makes total sense to me) 2. I have to all beds set up at least once for the assessor to see- although twins/double and toddler beds can be in storage (like in the basement) when they are seen. I do have to have them in place if a child is placed with me when the child is brought into my home. The crib must be set up once during the homestudy and set up each time I recertified (to make sure it still meets federal guidelines for safety). I feel so much better about this now. I am taking a few weeks off from my last classes, the schedule was impacting my son since I was out of the house multiple times a week. But the superviosr told me they will assign an assessor to me now since my application is complete- then I just have to finish the classes while the homestudy process is going on (3 visits- 1 per month if the schedule from when I certified for adoption holds true). I should be done with classes by the end of May and finished with the homestud process by end og July and then licensed sometime in December (yep it takes that long in my county). Thanks for all your comments- they really encouraged me to dig deeper into what was going on. Love to you,

I'm happy you went to the supervisor. I did have to have our extra room set up for foster/adopt kids for our homestudy. It's so funny how different the counties are in Ohio. Mine said we had to be licensed within six months of our initial application so we were scrambling to get all the classes and visits and background checkes done in time yet your county seems to take much longer than that.

Becky,
In my county, they do nto give you the application until you are half way through the classes, so that takes the time. They did say it was 6 months from the time of application to licensing, but they said that when I was licensed as an adoptive parent and they ended up coming out and doing a followup homstudy visit because the completed home study sat on the former superviors desk from Dec2005-June2006 with no one looking at it. I am cautiously optimistic that this time it might go faster, but I am not holding my breath. The nice thing about where I live is there are 3 counties I can go to to take the classes and they all coount for my licensing county. So if I need to hurry up and take the classes, I can work it out. I am sending you a PM. Love to you
