Smile New to Foster Parenting Process

Hi all! My husband and I made the decision after a lot of time thiking about it to become foster parents. I live in Washington State and the only have 3 months to license you from the time they receive your application. Tomorrow night we start our PRIDE classes. We will be taking those over the next 2 weeks. September 15th we take our CPR/First Aid class. We are so excited to be doing this. Any advice is welcomed. Im hoping that after we get licensed it doesn't take long to get a placement. We have 3 bio kids of our own. 2 boys, 8 and 7, and a daughter 2. We want to take children 6-10. Preferrably boys, I think, because thats what Im used to. Wish us luck!

Thumbs up Welcome

My husband and I are from Washington! We miss it. We're currently in Idaho and we're starting the PRIDE training in September 07. Can't wait!

I am also from Washington State (currently living in Colorado) and new to the whole foster thing. We start CORE classes Sept 5 and are very excited.
We have three bio girls ages 6, 4 &4.

We plan to move back to WA in 6 years when DH retires from the Air Force.

Good luck with your journeys. We just finished our Pride classes last Friday so now we are on the path to being Foster Parents. Although because we are military and have moved around they are having to do back ground checks from 4 different states. Hope it doesnt take long.

I am from Washington, also. I hate to tell you how they interpret the 90 day rule. That means you have 90 days to get everything submitted before you have to start all over again. They have no obligation to finish in 90 days. It took me 8 months to get licensed. The county I am in would not take the next step until the previous one was complete. It took 3 months just to get my fingerprints done before they would even start the home study. I hope your license goes a lot faster.

TigerLily -

My brother and his family live in Monument, CO and have had several students from the Air Force Academy stay with them. Beautiful area.

Yeah. Im kind of getting that feeling as well. I think maybe they said 90 days so many times because anything over that may scare people away. Right now its a waiting game for the background checks and I have to do the CPR class on September 15th but other than that they have all my paperwork so I have definately done my part. Im in Kitsap County btw.
