DH and I got a call Wed eve from social worker about a 9day-old baby boy at the local hospital ~ would we be interested?
Was she kidding?! Of course we were interested! FS born addicted to meth and withdrawl treatment started within 24 hours. He has some mild symptoms, but is responding well to medication. This is surreal! We recieved our license last week Saturday. These past few days have been a world-wind but worth it! We are so emotional (grateful, overjoyed, blessed) - I never expected this rush of feelings. I'm emotional anyway, but DH is not and he's shed many tears of happiness. As for adoption, BP are both incarcerated and their other 2 kids were removed years ago. Not sure how the process will go (TPR is pending), but we do have to wait 6 months to file a petiton for adoption. OK, I'm done gloating. I just never knew that dreams can become reality!!! Maria |

Contratulations!!! It is a blessing.
I thought you might benifit from experience with these court cases. I hope this lets you know a little more how the process typically works. Here is how the court thing typically works (Your case may be different). The court typically give the parents 6 months to get their stuff together prior to the Termination of Parental Rights. If they are showing progress and working their programs, they get up to 18 months. After the TPR it takes about 2 or 3 months for the adoption to happen. They can not be adopted until the TPR takes place. Also, the social workers by law have to contact the extended family. They will ask the extended family if anyone wants the child. The court typically give the extended family the first choice if they want to adopt the child. You need to find out the status of the extended family? From your story, this is the only real potential stumbling block I see on your way to adoption. Things very much in favor of adoption: Parent have had prior children removed, child was born drug addicted, and parent are in jail currently. However, the parents still have legal rights and due process. It will take time. It looks very very good, but the judge is the only one who can make the decision. Good luck I hope the little one is with you forever!!!! ![]() Last edited by straightblues : 10-31-2006 at 10:06 AM. |
