Foster Parents in Utah!?!
Hello all. I was just wondering if anyone here is a foster parent in Utah, and if so how long did it take for a child to be placed with you...start to finish.

Becky;
I don't think I can answer your questions, sorry! I was wanting someone to talk to who was in the same state as we are. I hope you don't mind having a friend! My husband and I want to adopt through the state of Utah also! We have some issues we are working out and then we are going to go for it! We know we would like ages 2-8 first and then we aould like a baby. My friends did foster care in Texas when we lived there and had 3 kids in her care for 2 1/2 years before they were asked. They decited to adopt internationally from the Ukrine. They are in the process of adopting twin girls and should have them in 18 months. My frineds took some of the money from foster care and put it toward her adoption in the Ukrine. We are thinking of adopting from Haiti or Ukrine for future baby. I had someone give me advice (web message board contact)about adopting from the state. She told me to have my homestudy done by Wasatch international adoptions and then contact the state. Why Wiaa.org? Because that is who the state certified homestudies through,and they don't take anyone elses studies. And why not let the D.C.F.S. pay for and do the study? Because your homestudy will go smoother and have less time sitting on the desk of some D.C.S.F. worker who has enought to do then worry about your homestudy.You have to be very aggresive and wait on their time and you may not get anywhere! If you don't then you may have a hard time. I will also tell you that according to this person, that once you have a homestudy you can inquire on the web about children in our/other state foster/adopt programs. It get much eaiser when it is done this way. I will send you the web address latter, as they are in my work email. I hope I have helped you some. Kim L. |

Hi, I am a foster/adoptive parent in UT. I think the placement depends on what you specified for your home and what the needs of the children are. When we were first licensed 5 years ago we were called for a placement right away. Next time around we waited for months before we had a placement. I think the difference was our family had changes and we weren't as flexible as the first time around.
