"the system"

It just doesnt seem fair to the kids that are waiting for a family, to wait for the system to catch up. It just doesnt make sense? Does anyone else feel the same way? Or does anyone have any positve notes to send my way? Thank you--Waiting in Ohio

I agree, with all the children needing placed, with no where to go why the wait. You will find that it is all a hurry up and wait merry-go-round. We the foster parents are the ones who need to get our reports in, get all our proper amount of trainings done, get the kids together, love them and all else that is involved with everyday living and parenting a child only to wait on the state to get their paperwork done (which can take sometime depending on the caseworker), fill out a report on a child, etc. Sometimes we are so overwhelmed with things that we just want to give up......but then we think what about the children? So hang in there and jump on the merry-go-round which will be a great ride with the foster children that will come your way! Give the children what they need and as far as the state good luck. The children need us foster parents..to us it is our lives to the state it is their job. Good luck and God Bless

I didn't agree with the extensive classes and time period of waiting when we first started, but now having gone through most of it, I have a better understanding why it is all necessary. These kids really need someone who is ready to bring them into their home. Not just financially, but emotionally too. They have suffered loss after loss and can't afford to be placed where they will be rejected or hurt again. They need us! If it takes a very long time to complete all this..so be it. We need to realize that we are dealing with children here and not a puppy or something that we can send back to the pound if it doesn't fulfill our hopes for our family. I am not trying to sound harsh, but please realize that foster parenting affects a child for the rest of his or her life and it should not be entered into lightly.

Re:
It should not take that long but we have come across the same problem. It is the system getting it together not you. Hang in there and keep calling and asking questions. Don't let up.We didn't and now have adopted 2 beautiful children and waiting for another to be placed.
