How to find reliable day care?

I realize this topic isn't limited to foster parents but I'm hoping that enough of you have experience with this that you can point me in the right direction.

My husband & I have recently received our temporary foster care license. We will be fostering for school aged children so we only need to have daycare for the summer and school holidays.

My question is how to find daycare. We don't have children of our own so this is all new to us. Plus how do we check these places out and make sure it's a good place?

Thanks for any and all advice!

Teri

THe state should have an agency that will print you out a list of Daycares that take the payment form foster agency.

That is if your agency pays for daycare, i hear some don't.
Soince you both work, they should.

Then you just search the ones near you. Talk to firends and family and get recomendations.

A lot depends on where you live. Where i live it is difficult to enroll. Where my brother lives there is a place that will take them on a day by day basis. Just drop them off etc,,

Stop by the daycare you are interested in unannounced, if a daycare does not have an open door policy then you dont want them. Check with the licensing agency and ask to see copies of their annual inspections.

Thanks for the ideas, I appreciate it greatly. I have no idea if our agency pays for day care. That's not really a consideration for us at this point, though.

We don't have any daycares in mind, of course. Are there any websites that rank them? Maybe I'll take my chances with the yellow pages.

Thanks again!
