Question Does anyone know how long it takes from...

the time our file is turned over by our SW to her supervisors who will then turn it over to the specialists who will then certify us??? What is the general timeline for how long this process takes or is there even one?

Our worker just turned everything over last Friday.

Thanks!

Donna

Ours took a couple of months, we were originally told it would take a week or so.

I think it depends on several variables. What state you are in and what type of fostering you are applying for maybe to name a few.

You might see if you can find it on your states website. in AR they have it laid out somewhat clear as to the timelines that everything is supposed to happen. Of course I can speak from experience the timelines don't always mean anything. I was supposde to have the entire process of being liscensed done within 6 months, and it has been almost a year since I first contacted the state and over 6 months since we attended class and we are still waiting on a homestudy.

We were told it would take only a couple of days after our last home visit and it took a month and a half. That was in November and we still have not had a single call for a placement.

Good luck!

Exclamation Here is my timeline thus far...

August - begin classes
October - finish classes
August through November - turn in all paperwork
November 3rd - first home visit
November 23rd - 2nd home visit
December - turn in all paperwork on pets
January 13th - followup visit at new home
January 23rd - SW called our bosses for professional references (in addition to the personal references she gathered during our paperwork phase)
January 31st - notified that SW had turned in file to her supervisors

Note: I just reread her email to me and it said that her supervisors would let her know within 5-7 days if they needed anything more and then it goes to the specialists for review and certification.

Also, I'm in Kentucky and they don't have anything on their website that I can find regarding timelines.

I hate waiting !!!!

We have only been licensed since 1/25/06...so my experience is very recent.

I had my last conversation with my licensing worker on January 5th and she told me she would be forwarding my file to her supervisor to sign off on it and that was just a formality. We received the license last week and it was effective 1/25/06, so it took about three weeks for us.

Good luck!

After our info was submitted it took about a week and a half, then they came back with one question. They wanted more information about one detail of our bio. I gave them the info they wanted over the phone and then it was submitted to the supervisors. We received a call for a sibling set of four about a week and a half after our homestudy had been submitted. Never did get a call saying we were approved. Haven't ever gotten a paper copy of our license either. Go figure. We have fostered seven children so far.

Good luck as you begin your journey!

We got the call that we were licenced officially 10 days after our paperwork was turned over to the North Carolina state folks. That was a week ago and we still don't have our paper licence.
No calls yet
