Are there biracial children out there for foster/adoption?
We would like to foster/adopt a biracial child or a child of minority. Are there foster parents out there who could give me an idea of the children that are offered for placements? Is there a norm on the type of children and will we have better luck getting placed sooner if we are open to race/sex? I know it is all different by state, but we are from WI. Are you offered placements from just your state foster care system, county, or all states?
Thanks! |

Welcome WI. My husband is from there.
Here in our state of TN, we live in a small town and county. For the most part, the children that come into the foster care system that are minorities or biracial, are placed with relatives. Most, not all. YES< you would probably have a better chance of getting a placement if you are open to both race, age and gender. That definitely opens more doors for you. While there are so many drug problems in America, there will be all races of children to adopt. Here in TN and our county, we are usually offered children from our county or the next 2 counties over. We have adopted a baby girl that was placed with us at 2 days of age, finally just before she turned three. Now we will soon be adopting a set of blonde haired, blue eyed boy/girl twins. We got them 13 months ago and they are now 18 months. Most children that are already freed for adoption are older children. Or large sibling groups. We were offered a sibling group of three healthy caucasian sisters, ages 2, 4 and 6. They were legally free for adoption. We had them for a week, but they had some issues that were affecting our then 2 year old daughter (we would later adopt). They were great kids, but had some issues that would make them better suited for a family with no kids or much older kids. Most infants will only be foster to adopt or legal risk or just plain fostering. In TN, the infant is always a foster child, giving the bps at least 12 months to do their caseplan. So no child is younger than 1 year, that is adoptable. Good luck and hope this helps some. |

Love 4 kids,
You may want to go to www.adoptuskids.com which has a listing of children for adoption nationwide. You can limit it to your state or go national. This is only a small sampling of the kids available, but it gives you an idea of the makeup of those listed.... Hope it helps. S-

I am also looking into foster/adopting a black or biracial child. My bio children are biracial. When I did checked in on it, it seems you get biracial or minorities ALOT faster.

Hi. I am also in TN. Our first and only placement is from our county. They are AA. Ages are 11 weeks and 4 years. They have been with us 5 weeks. Mom is not doing anything more than show up for visits so far. The gmom wants them, but she is out of state, plus has MANY kids already living with her. So, they are with us for a while as I see it. Part of me would love to keep them, but 2 4yr olds (our adopted daughter and FS) is more than I can handle for a lifetime. The baby is previous. Be prepared when you start and have to have visits. I don't seem to do anything right. They have already made false accusations. It is so fun!
