Starting Foster Care Classes in Feb!

Hi all! I'm from Iowa and new to this board even though I've been a lurker for over a year! :-) DH and I just submitted all of our voluminous paperwork which from what I've been told is the beginning of MORE voluminous paperwork (;-) ) to DHS. Waiting on the crim checks which I know we'll pass with flying colors.

We're currently childless because of infertility and after much consideration choose to grow our family thru foster to adopt.

We'll be starting MAPP classes in February and I'm so excited!!

Welcome fellow Iowan.
DH and I have finished the mounds of paperwork, finished MAPP classes at the end of October, They are the best classes, We have finally gotten our Foster/adopt license this past saturday so now we are just waiting for that phone to ring. It is nice to see another Iowan on the board. I look forward to keeping in contact with you

Hi!! I'm a little nervous about the whole process. I'm surprised it took that long to get your license. What county are you in?

I've been told the need for foster parents in my county is so dire that the moment the ink dries on the license we'll probably get calls!

I'm nervous about having a child in my home and then going thru reunification. I know I give all my heart to these children in need so it may feel like my heart is being ripped out! BUT I'm always going to keep fresh in my mind reunification is the the number one goal so hopefully I'll be more prepared mentally.

I live in Linn County and they also told us that they needed foster parents but I think that they had so many finish up classes with in a short amount of time that I have a feeling they had alot of paperwork to go through also. We also just took our Madatory child abuse reporting class, so that is out of the way. We have our fingers crossed that the call will come soon but also know that it will only happen when the time is right.

HAHAHA.. it's a balmy 3 degrees here with a wind chill advisory! Eek. First cold temps of the winter and alas, no snow yet. :-(

I'm actually in Iowa City so very close to Marion! :-) Have you been there lately? It's grown so much in the last five years!!

Omg

Well I live in Marion......
What a small world we live in. When you start your classes let me know, curious where you will be taking them and who your instructors are. Well Fosterma I have seen some of your posts and you say when the time is right the call will come. Last night at 4:45 so we have a new 5yr old with us for christmas, it is a short term stay which is nice to know up front.

IOwa Girl - We are looking at the 0-3 range however things change and we left it open for short term and emergency foster care.

Sorry, head is spinning all this STUFF when a first placement. I cried last night thinking to my self am I really ready for this. However when K woke up this morning I got my answer,,. NEED A HUG I unquote.
Iam so glad there is someone to talk to out there especially since the chat room is down.

KEEP IN TOUCH

L

L,
What a blessing for her to have you for Christmas!!! Keep your heart open to whatever happens, I never thought I would be the forever mom of 4, but I'm LOVIN it!

Iowagirl,
That pizza place might come in handy when the calls start rolling in . I've always dreamed of owning my own business. If your organized enough to do that you're going to be great at all the paperwork part of fostering.

I'm from Iowa too!

Hi....I have been lurking here for several months and finally decided to register. I live in Washington County (Riverside.) I started visiting this board because my hubby and I are in the process of trying to adopt my 9 mo. old cousin who has been in foster care in Oregon since birth. I am also thinking about becoming a foster parent someday myself.....but first we have to think about my baby cousin and what she needs. Nice meeting all of you.

Welcome mayamoo

It is nice to have some IOWAN's on board. My next door neighbors go to riverside all the time to buy their motorcycles. We are fostering right now but our ultimate goal ( as it is right now which it could change right fosterma?) is to adopt a little one.

I hope you all have a Very Merry christmas or Happy holidays.

L
