length of time to receive license?
Hi all, all of our paperwork was sent to our states capital for licensing last week and we are just wondering what time frame we are looking at to actually receive the license. I would love to know what the average is or from others what their wait times were. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help or give some ideas. Thanks so much.

What state are you in? That can make a difference.
In NC, I've heard everything form a week to 6 and a half weeks. |

I'm in Texas. Finished my home study in May 2004 and had a Home Visit with my placement worker on Sept. 28, she said I was licensed and put me on the list the next day and I got a call later that afternoon for a placement. I don't know why it took so long between the homestudy and home visit but it was a little frustrating. In my area that are desperate for foster families...

I am also in Michigan and my husband and I have been in the process of our FP license since Feb. Our case worker said hopefully by Nov 1st. Labsmom, where are you located? Which agency are you through? I am in the Grand Rapids area (Kent county) and am going through D.A. Blogett.

Wow!
Really?! That scares me! We are over halfway through our county training, 3 weeks to go. Our homestudies are also almost complete by November 2nd. We were told up to two months max after the training ends to get our liscense to foster/adopt. This would be a total of 4-5 months after our first class. Why is it so long for you guys? I live in Fairfax, VA.

We finished our classes at the end of may and still here we are. I think it is because the case worker we were assigned only works monday and wednesday. So anything we have to do has to be done on those days. If there is a conflict one week then we have to wait till the next week.

We're in Frederick County, VA...we took the 10 week class and then I know it was under 6 weeks for everything to come back. I know some people in our group and theirs were a little longer. I don't know what makes the difference. We had a placement 3 days after we were certified.

Hi,
I'm in KY and we finished our classes 10/3/02 and had our first placement on 10/30/02 (they rushed our approval to take them). In KY they have 1 year to finish you up but I dont think it ever takes that long. Another couple in our class still wasn't approved as of 1/03 so I can't really give you an honest answer on exact time. For us it was obviously God's plan as we've achieved TPR on these kids and are in the beginning stages of the adoption process!!! Good luck - being a foster parent is challenging but AWESOME Michelle

It took us 9 months because we have so many license workers - and they just took their time in doing it. Now since we are fostering our little one - He is ready to adopt - now we have to take adoption classes (only a day and a half). MORE paperwork, more references, police checks, more paperwork on who we are - we just filled these things out!!!! AGHHHHH
I think some people who have babies should go thru these kinds of classes!! They are the ones that need to be checked out - some of them that is..... it will take a while to adopt because I want to take him to the regular dr, drug and alochol dr. The agency said probably 6 months to adopt - they want us to have him checked out prior to adopting. For state subsity - I don't care about the money - I just want the little one to get what he deserves!! Jackie License July 04 Lucas 22 months September 30th. YIPPIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I'm in minnesota. We had our homestudy on 10/6 and it was signed on 10/19 and we were put on the placement list. We should get our license in the mail by the middle of next month. I'm just waiting on a placement now.

Hi.
Our paperwork was just submitted to the state of Ohio, and our caseworker told us to expect to be licensed by the middle of November 04'! Ohio only takes a couple of weeks! |
