Hi everyone....
My husband and I have considered foster care. My question is, would you recommend going through the state agency or a private agency? ![]() |

AGENCY
Hi,
My husband and I went through a private agency. We felt like it was a better choice for us and the children. The support system is better with our agency then with our county and when we need referrels to councelors, doctors, dentist, etc... we get a very fast responce. My advice would be to contact different agency's and see what they have to offer as far as support system. Good luck. Foster Care is a true blessing to those of us involved, there are good days and bad but for the most part it is very rewarding. |

So much depends on your state. In my state, IL, 80% of the cases are handled by private agencies. Some are very professional, and others are shockingly bad. Definitely do your homework, because a bad agency can make your life hell. I would talk to your local foster parent support group for input. I would also go to a few informational meetings, which most agencies offer pretty regularly, and see which agency meets your needs. That might turn out to be the state agency. Some people from other states say it's easier to get referrals if you go with the state agency rather than the private agency. It really depends. Good luck!
