?s To Ask Panel @ Foster Class Panel Night

Tonight is the class that I have been most excited about throughout the entire curriculum. Tonight there will be adoptive and foster parents from our county, a judge, lawyers, police officers, the regional supervisor, foster children and adoptive children. Tonight is the night where the entire class is about getting to ask ?s and having our ?s answered by the appropriate authorities on that subject. Now I am at a loss for what to ask. What not to ask. And who do I address the ? to. Has anyone been through this?? Any suggestions on ?s????? I would appreciate any thoughts on this matter. THANKS!!

Perhaps too late now but I would suggest that you ask the foster parents about their best and worst times. Also ask under what circumstances would they ask to have a child removed.

You could ask similar questions of the foster children. You could also ask them about their relationships with the bio-children. Ask about how much they want their foster parents involved with such things as school. Ask about the relationships between their families and the foster family. Ask about their relationship with the workers.

Ask the police about their experiences with foster homes. Ask if they understand how we cannot make the child "normal" and accountable overnight.

Ask the judge to what level she or he likes foster parents to be involved in his court room. Ask him or her what indormation is most helpful from the foster parents.

Ask a lawyer anything you want. They like to talk. I would ask what they believe is the role of the guardian ad litem and how they fulfill that role. Do they put much effort into seeking independent information?

Ask the social workers and their supervisors about what foster parents can do to help them. Ask them what frustrates them most about the foster care system.

I am starting the classes 6/15, so I have a while before I get to this point, but I am saving these because I'll be the one with no questions at the time and then be scrambling for info later on!
thanks! Please chime in if you have some more ideas!!
