Smile Agency Has Our License

Hello everyone! My social worker called to announce
that my agency has received our license. So now we
are waiting for a call and a first placement. We are so
excited! We are accepting 2 children between the

That is so exciting!!!! When we first got our license I was calling the placement worker like every other week asking when our agency was on call. It is very exciting.

Since you are taking ages 0 -7 I would make sure that you have some things that you need on hand. Sorry if you already have this but I found that it really helped us. We got our first placement at 5 PM and after we picked him up and went to McDonalds it was after 7 when we got home. He was 18 mths old. My sister and mom gave me a foster parent shower and I had stuff on hand but there were things that I did not think of.

I would go out and buy some things that you can keep in your pantry, like apple juice, cherrio's maybe some formula and baby cereal. It would also be a good idea to hit resale shops and go to stores and buy any clothes that are on clearence. We did that and thank god we did! He came with stuff but it was all in black garbage bags and I had no idea what he had. So having pj's out on hand is a very good thing. I would have one pair in each size. Trust me you will be glad that you did. I don't know if you have any children already in your home. But it was very crazy at my house the first night. Take this time to get things prepared. Do you have toothbrushes, shampoo, underware??? These kids may come to you with stuff but some of it I would not even let my dog wear. That is my advise to you. You might buy something and think that you may never use it, or what are you going to do with 6 bags of underware in different sizes, but trust me you will be so glad that you have it and not running to the store to buy things when instead you would rather be home attending to your new child.

Hope that this helps. It did for us! Good luck!

Congratulations! I am so excited and happy for you! (And just a BIT jealous...lol). We have only had one PRIDE class, and it seems like it will be an eternity before I am in your position. Please keep us informed when you get your first placement!

We do not have any children of our own due to infertility. We are excited and I have been checking my answering machine from work about every two hours! Just hoping for a good placement.

Talking Waiting for the call !

We are also waiting for the call ! Our CW called last Monday and said that we were certified. I called the placement facility immediately and told them what we are willing to accept (0-6). They stated that the board that they have is only 1/3 full. I dropped papers off this last friday and they stated that they have two babies that just became available but they could not place till Monday, so me and my dh are going out of our minds. But I have one question for you do they do placements on the weekends?

Waiting forever!!

We did respite care this weekend. We had a 4 yr girl and her 3yr old brother from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. They were very active and rough with each other, but overall, it was great and I now have experience with foster children. We hope we get a regular placement soon!

futureohiomommy,

My husband and I (and our 3 kiddos) recently moved to Ohio, I see you are from SW Ohio, we are just outside of Cleveland. We are just starting to research foster parenting, and hope to start fostering when my kids get a little older
Could you tell me what agency you went thru??
Thank you!

We are licensed by the our public county agency.
The weekend was fun and good experience for when
we get regular, more-long term placements.

IT WILL HAPPEN.....

Hi, we didn't even know our license was in! It came in to the agency on Oct. 31st and we never knew, until we got a call on Nov. 7th. We now have a gorgeous 2 week old baby girl in our arms. We are suppose to be getting her brother too. We don't know how long they will be with us, I already am so in love with her. It will be so hard for her to go, but I know in my heart that where she belongs is what God will provide for her. Good luck to you!

Congratulations!!!!! How permanent? Are they already going for TPR?

I don't have any experience with a baby addicted to meth but our baby girl was addicted to crack/cocaine when she was born....we have had her since she was 1 day old and she is now 17 months old. If you have any questions I could answer I would be glad to. I think I have still not slept through the night more than 3 times since January '02......I have permanant sleep deprevation but I am loving it

Finally received a call for placement!

I got a call tonight for placement of a 16 month old baby girl. She has been in foster care since birth. Fm wants to find a foster home that would like to adopt her if her since PC hearing is in March and if it goes well, the foster family will get to adopt her. We get to meet her on Saturday and spend the day with her. Then if all goes well, she would come to stay with us within a week or so.....We are so excited!
