Just starting out!

Hello everyone! I am new here and want to know what is in store for me. I am 25 and my husband is 28 and we just made the decision to become FP. We have contacted an agency that we liked and they are sending us an information packet. What happens next? How long will this process take? Does my husband have to be at every event (he's a firefighter and is gone a lot during the summer)? We are in California and have been researching this for about 2 months. Any help on the whole process would be a great help. Thanks, Faith |

Welcome Faith! We are really new as well. We became certified about 2 weeks ago and recieved our first placement almost immediately! It was really fast. I don't think they are all like that, but we have really been in prayer for several years for this knowing that we were going to become foster parents. For us it only took 1 month from the time of the first phone call to the agency to certification. We have been told that we were like the record, but we just jumped into it and got the classes done as quickly as we could. I did look around quite a bit before begining and it seemes that different agencys worked at different speeds. Some of the meetings for us require both partners, some don't. It depends on what they are for. Good luck and feel free to ask whatever questions come to mind. Just keep in mind that different areas and different agencies are going to vary quite a bit. Where in CA are you? I am not familiar with your city. I am in CA too. PM me if you want to on this. Have a blessed day. Jodi |
