I haven't posted on this exact thread, but my husband and I are Fundamental Baptists.

Do you have a question?

Mom to four angels---
If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in? If you want to email me instead of posting on here, my email is laughterkt2001@yahoo.com
We are using an agency in Pennsylvania, but live in the South.
We are fundamental baptists that are very active in our church.

I grew up in the Baptist church. I'm curious, what constitutes a "fundamentalist" Baptist?

im my upbringing as a preachers daughter it constituted of wearing culottes....which means NO PANTS!! at all....only dresses for the girls
no makeup or at least very slight
homemade bathing suits.....
you wouldnt wear a regular bathing suit its a bit too revealing....

get the point?
strict?

thats why i rebelled quit frankly.....

im grateful for the heritage of the BIBLE but i think the "legalist" things were way over board......

i do prefer a baptist theology mind you over others....but i will never be like i was growing up......i wear pants and its just crazy how "legalistic" fundamentals are

theology wise i will get a constitution if you life
you would know if you were raised Baptist im sure ..pretty much the same just wayyyyyy more strict in alot of ways

Being of a 'raised' in a 'fundamental baptist' environment, I would also add that most border on the verge of being 'cults'.

You know it isn't about the way you dress or not "wearing make-up". Our church most women wear make-up. Most women do not wear slacks BUT some do and they are are just as sweet and so not judged and not considered any less of a blessing to the church.

It is about a way of life and serving God. More value with this group of baptists seems to be put into FAMILY and child upbringing that is suited to me and the way I perfer to serve God. I assure you that serving God is not "cultish".

Longingtomeetyou it is all about "interpretation". The Bible speaks of women not dressing in men's clothes. If you interpret pants/slacks/jeans etc. to be "men's clothes" then women can't wear anything with "legs"! Of course, at that time and in that area most men wore loose tunics, robes and cloaks -- but fundamentalists are very good at ignoring facts that don't fit their views. And everyone - no flames! I was a Baptist for 51 years. Four years ago the Baptist church we had attended regularly for a lifetime said, it was GOOD that my daughter did not have an abortion, it was GOOD that she chose to keep and raise the baby rather than make an adoption plan -- but REFUSED to allow the baby (4 months old) to be dedicated because the mother was unwed. That's Baptist logic!

I grew up and around one of the largest 'Fundamental Baptist' chruches in the country (Hint: it was in Indiana).

I considered them a 'quasi-cult' because they worshiped the Man and the Numbers more then the Lord. I know that is my opinion, but I was very close to the interworkings of the church and have too many stories.

Yes serving God is not 'cultish'. But, the manner in which it is claimed to be done comes very close.

While I still lean toward the general 'Baptist' theology, I do not attend a Baptist church. I attend a 'Bible' church that is about the same congregation size and where I grew up. They have a greater passion to the development of believers and serving the community then any 'fundamental Baptist' group that I have known.

In short, the 'Fundamental Baptist' scare me more that any David Koresh (sp?) or Jim Jones!
