Exclamation help.. difficult last name!

My fiance and I are having a heck of a time with first names! Whenever we think of one, we put it against our last name and it sounds funny. Our last name is Allen, so names that end in -a, -en, or -an sound odd. We liked Dylan and Jenna, but Dylan Allen and Jenna Allen sound odd.. HELP!

names

I love name questions. Names and how they fit together have so much influence on how a person grows and so often parents give a child a name they like without much consideration to the whole name together. (my nephew comes to mind. Without telling his name - his first and last names are both two syllables with the last syl being the same for both. Calling him by his first name is fine, but when you put them together, it sounds like a lisp!) Any name that begins with a vowell can be tricky to pair, but frankly, I don't think either choice you mentioned is particularly off rhythm, but I do see what you mean. You might want to look at names without similar rings, like Thomas, Cooper, Jennifer or Elizabeth. Sometimes if you go through a name book and just put each name with Allen, something you might never would have considered will just jump right out at you. Good luck. It's a big decision and if you haven't settled on a name, a great way to pass the time while you wait for placement. God Bless.

Actually, friends of ours' last name is Alan; their children's names are Micheala, Zoe and Jayden (this would be the boy).

I like Evan, but I think I am partial as that's our son's name......

For Jenna, though, you could use Genevieve and spell the nickname Genna.............. just a thought................... good luck, Evan was 2 days old before the docs could stop calling him Baby Boy Strickland..................... I'm not the most decisive person I know.

Good luck!! This is the fun part.............

Binky, here are a few ideas that I could think of off the top of my head.

Girls: Elizabeth Allen / Patricia Allen / Amelia Allen / Alicia Allen / Mackensie Allen / Haley Allen / Sara Allen

Boys: Paul Allen / Christopher Allen / Isaiah Allen / Lucas Allen / Jacob Allen

That is a difficult last name!

My brother's middle name is Alan so I grew up hearing "David Alan" all of my life. I think it's a pretty good combination.

I like it! They flow well. I was always told that you should name a child something that you are willing to holler out the front door for the whole neighborhood to hear. LOL

I love Landon Carter too. As a matter of fact, I wanted to name our 6 month old twin fs this if we get to adopt. As a hobby , (before my 30 month old and set of twins arrived) I loved to do geneology. I have traced my maternal side back to find that we come from a very prominant colonial Virginia family, who had a name that was used over and over again, by my ancestors. This name being Landon Carter. This line and family holds lots of very prominant family members and ties, such as Carter Braxton (Signer of the Dec. of Ind), Landon Carter , about 15 named this in our line and was my gggggrandfather's name. Also was the name in a movie with Mandy Moore, her love interest . Never knew this name and name combination was so popular until recently. Still a very good name.
