Question Does this name sound too girlish?

When you first hear the name KEL do you think boy or girl? This is a huge debate in our house. I think it could pass for a boy. Hubby does not. I went to school with a boy named Kelly. I am looking for a boy's name that starts with a K. Any suggestions? I also like the name Kallum. Again hubby thinks I am off my rocker. LOL.

I like the name Kallum - Had never heard that name until now. Here's some other "K" names - Keagan - Kaleb - Kelden - Keifer - Kalvin - Kolten - Koty. There are many sites that have tons of baby names. Perhaps you might look at some "C" names and replace the c with k. Good luck on the name game - always so many choices!

I've not heard of Kel in the states, although Kjell (Kjelle) is Swedish, I believe.

I do know Kelly males. Kevin. Kegan/Keegan (check out Irish baby names!) Kale. Kristofer/Kristopher/Kris. Kyle. Kade. Kaden.

I feel the name Kel or Kelly is more girlish. What about Kellen, like Kellen Winslow the football player?

Thanks for the ideas. I was hoping Kel wouldn't sound too girlish. It is one of my favorites. I really like Irish names. I don't want a name that is traditional Irish. Too hard to say or people won't know if it is a boy or girl's name. We have a friend(100 percent Irish) who went with more traditonal Irish names. You have no idea if it is a boy or girl's name just by looking at it. I'm the one stuck on the letter K name. I have been trying to combine the two. No luck. LOL. I might just stick to Irish names.

denisenw5- I have never heard of that name. How do you pronounce it? Is it Ellen with a K?

Yes, that is how you prounounce Kellen, Ellen with a K. (Kellen Winslow is a tight end for the Cleveland Browns and played college ball for Miami.) My husband suggested the name for our last child.

I have never heard of Kellen, but that is a NEAT name. And it wouldn't be overly used, either!

We already have a Ken, Kendra, and Kendell in the family. LOL. Otherwise I would like the name. We also have a Kevin, Kyle, and Kolton. Maybe I should give up the K names. LOL.

I wonder if you could pick a name like Kellen and then call him Kel for short? That way he would have a different name to fall back on if he doesn't like Kel.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm really thinking over Kellen. We are trying to come up with a name not too common. But not too different. It's hard to find the right balance. We are soooo tired of our daughters' names being on the top ten list year after year. LOL. They weren't even popular names when we named them. I guess you never know what name will take off and what names will fizzle.

Hey there. Just thought I'd post since my name is Kelly. I'm female so of course I think of the name for a girl, but I also come from a big Irish family. Here are some K suggestions that we have in our family.

Kevin
Kieran (my favorite)
Keagen
Kelsey

All boys!!!

Good Luck naming your son.

Peace,
K

Do you think Kelsey would work for a boy? I hear it more for a girl.

Here's a few more for you: Kirk, Kurt, Kellon (with an o instead of an e) Kenton and Keaton.
