My son is William Porter (no choice in that one, if it was a boy hubby got his way, and thus our son is the III). I did get to choose his Hebrew name though
My daughter is Alexis Lynae
Alexis we chose because of the "A", both of my grandfathers names were with A's.
Lynae is made up - first mom's middle name is Lyn, which was too plain for me, and out came Lynae, LOL.

Naming children is an especially hard task - made even harder now that I work at an elementary school. One bad "connection" and I can't use the name.

Our children are - Rylie Jacob (boy)
Cole Dalton (boy)
Delaney Shay (girl)

I tell you the gender because let me tell you that EVERY name is unisex now!

For number two, if its a boy he will be Jeffrey Matthew. (Jeff was my husband's oldest brother who died when he was only 21 and Matthew is my brother)

My son's name is Jayden Matthew

Jayden - means Heard by God
Matthew - means Gift from God

I chose three names that I liked which were Jayden, Joshua and Jacob. I then spoke with my DH and of the three, he liked Jayden. We then spoke to the bmom (at the time pbmom) and bdad and they also liked Jayden the best so it was unanimous. It didn't have to be unanimous, DH and I were free to choose whatever name we wanted, but it was quite cool that we all liked the same names. I didn't tell any of them which of the three were my favorite until hearing from each of them.

We chose Matthew as the middle name which is my nephew's name (who is also the bfather).

My daughter is Shanley Elisabeth. Shanley I found in a 'Baby Names From Around The World' book in the irish section and Elisabeth is after Elisabeth (Filarski) Hasselbeck who is my all-time favorite Survivor contestant.

We named our daughter after my dh's Grandmother, the woman hated me for who knows what and my dh adored her. Emma Jane. After that she adored me, I could do no wrong and neither could our daughter. She passed 3 years later more proud of that child than anything else in her life.

I wanted my child to be Quincy - Quinn Charles or Quinn Claire. I also very much liked Quinn Thomas. Which I really glad I didn't go with QT - cutie - he' have to be one tough little guy.

But I also liked Griffin and Bailey.

So when I found it would be a boy, I still wasn't sure - Quinn, Griffin or Bailey. I read his referral, all the while leaning towards Quinn. His referral stated that he was the 5th bio child to his birth mother - Quinn means 5th born.

So Quinn it is! But Charles and Thomas went out the window when I found that he had been named by his birthmother and lived with her for the first 9 months of his life. My son is an International adoptee, born to a poverty stricken woman considered a minority. The only thing she could give him was a chance and a name. So his middle name is the name the beautiful woman gave him.

He's now 5. Been home forever for 2 years. It uses that name to draw a straight line from his birthmother to his mama. As he grows older, I hope he appreciates the love both his mothers have for him.

Our daughter is Aisling (pronounced Ash-lin) - which is a very popular Irish name and most of my family lives in Ireland...I always liked it but DH wasn't crazy about it - when we met our daughter our other 2 top choices just didn't fit and this one did!

wow...what pretty names. you know, i love both traditional and more unique names as well. we're holding our breath that our match will work out and if so, we've decided to name her Carrington. I basically whined and whined until DH agreed. LOL I told him, "you know I always get my way, so just go ahead and agree to Carrington and I'll shut up!" He agreed, but gets to pick the middle name....Lord only knows what that'll be....Heaven help us all.

Like I said, we're holding our breath right now....the match is kinda in limbo so we don't know anything one way or the other right now...keep us in your prayers please!

Keep those names coming....especially how you came up with them.

I adopted my daughter from Guatemala and added a Juniper to her given names of Reyna Isabel. I didn't think it was unusual - but I've gotten alot of comments on it. I thought I was being traditional..

Hope you don't mind me chiming in! I loved the naming part of parenting and I love to hear what others choose and why. My children are:
Amy Katherine (Katherine is a family name)

Traci Elisabeth (after the only two people who did not say "name her after me")

Jacob Oswalt (Oswalt is my maiden name)

There have been hundreds of variations and nicknames given by family, friends, and the kids themselves over the years. Some have nothing to do with their given names at all. My 19 year old daughter(Amy) will answer with no problem to Be-Bop, and my son (13) thinks he will go by Jaws when he sign his 1st MLB contract. I have no idea where that came from but he seems to believe it is a great nickname for a major league pitcher. Hope everyone has a blessed New Year!

Kitti (Yep, thats short for Katherine)

Justin Scott (7 years old)

Sarah Brandi ( 1 year old)

Justin is not named after anyone. I have just always loved that name. My husband liked the name Scott. We both liked how the names sounded together.

Sarah is named after my husband's grandmother. Her name was Sarah. Brandi is after my mother Barbara.

I also liked the fact that the name Sarah means princess (which of course she is!) LOL!

I just read the new list ! Top 100 names of 2005. That might give some ideas. For me it makes things harder. I do not want a common name. Everything I like has now shown up there! Tina
