I'am only 19 and I'am dreaming of child names already. Don't worry I'am not planning on having children till I'm old enough to stand changing dirty diapers..LOL. I have a list of children names for the future and if it comes down to making a deal with my husband on me naming at least 3 children on my own I'll do it. I plan on having lots of children. When I tell my friends some of the names I'v chosen they look at me in pitty but I don't care.LOL. some....well, all of these names are in contection with my idole DAVID BOWIE. So here are the top names I'v chosen give me you'r thoughts I won't be hurt I promise.

Zowie
Hermoine
Janine
Blue Jean
Duncan
Bevan
Ziggy
Jareth
Eno
Reeves
Julian
Star dust
and yet one that isn't DAVID BOWIE RELATED..LOL, Azure. All these names are for real , I really love these names.

My grandfather and my uncle are Duncan. It is also my cousin's son's middle name. So, I'm a little partial to that one.

I also love Jareth. Since I saw the movie that you quote at the bottom of your post. I took my cousins to see it when they were little, my nieces loved it when they were little, my ex's girls loved it too. I had it on tape, I 'll have to try to find it. My son may like it too.

Do you know if it is available on DVD?

Hi Allison

Hi Allison,

I like most of the more conventional names on your list, but I'm sort of uptight, so there you go!!

My sister has a theory about naming a baby. Stand on your front steps and yell the future child's name, like when our parents would call us in for dinner, and see what you think!

My theory, picture your future little one in 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade, during attendance on the 1st day of school. Also consider those later years, i.e. jr. high school and high school, when the smallest issue can become the biggest drama.

Just my thoughts, but I like your creativity. Hopefully, your children will inherit that from you!
Peace,
LeeAnn

Wink THANK YOU...

Thank you for you're thoughts. My mother says that pepople write down all the names in a book and then later when it's time to name the kid they end up not naming their kids any of the names they wrote in the book..lol. I thought by thinking of "wierd" names the kids at school won't be able to make fun of their names because they can't think of any. My mother also asked me if my child was going to work at Dunk-n- Donautes..lol..because of the name Duncan.Mother also told me that my other half also has to agree on the names toO but as long as I get the names Hermoine, Duncan, and Zowie some how stuck in there I'm alllll good.LOL.

Cool

I see nothing wrong with the list at all. Looks kind of fun really. Your mom is probably right, the father may want some say in the names which reminded me of naming one of my sons. His Dad had some names I refused to even consider, I liked ones he refused to consider. So each made a list of ten names we liked, each of us got to cross of nine, then the two names were to be first and middle. So I found nine names that were horrible, not saying what as someone may like them, but that way I knew my favorite would be all that was left. I almost think he did the same, and as it worked out we used the name he liked, and the middle name of my brother who was killed when we were children.

I used to think about names I'd name a hypothetical child too. Then when I actually did adopt (at the age of 47), I realized I was adopting a real child who already had a real name. It was still kind of fun to think about what to choose for a middle name, and I solicited suggestions from my family & friends. As it turns out, I wound up keeping my little girl's formal name as her middle name and her nickname as her first name (Sasha Alexandra -- Sasha is a nickname in Russia for either Alexander or Alexandra) just to make her life easier in the US since I intended to keep calling her by her nickname, but loved her formal first name.

So I wound up not using any of those other names I had dreamed of all these years! LOL - guess that means more cats & dogs in my future. I already have an Alice Ann and a Lucy Elizabeth (spoiled indoor cats who haven't forgiven me yet for bringing home a toddler).

I used to make lists as well at your age. My favorite name at 12 was Nicole. I still like the name - but it became too popular. My favorite this year is Emma - but it too will soon be too popular I think (because of Friends). You never know until the time comes. Everything changes when it's the "real deal".

I personally like Zowie (spelled Zoe the "w" gives it too much of "whee, whee" sound) and Bevan (I know a Bevan-I think it's German). Jareth, Janine, and Reeves will all pass on the playgroung as well.

I have always favored traditional names for boys as they tend to suffer more with "weird" names. That too is changing as well, especially in the AA community.

This is a fun post!!!

Hi,

I was 18 when i had my darling daughter and she had sooooooo many names befoe she was actually born...........

Lily mae......after great gran but her dad walked out so i didn't go with that one!

Summer Lily......got told no way as she was a winter baby...born november!

Rebecca louise or rebecca lee.....got told no as she'd be called a beck (a slang work from tramp here in uk!)

when it came down to it her granda picked her name while watching the X files when he was drunk, she is called MELISSA (after mulders sister i think) her middle name is Lee.

My son is called MARK IAN JOSEPH, each name from a deceased member of our family, morbid i know but nice too!

there are kids in my kids school called Skye and Tanneth i also love the name MORGAN for a boy or a girl so you all now know what i'd call any future baby, although if i have a baby with my current partner it would have to be called Billie, as his surname is Elliott

Cool Bowie names

Then there's Bowie's daughter, "Alexandria Zahra Jones." He's said that if he and Iman have a son they'll name him "Stenton," that being one of his father's names, the other, "Heywood," having already been used for "Duncan Zowie Heywood Jones." Later Bowie said he's getting too old to have kids, so that if he has another it'll be through adoption.

AWESOME!!! David Bowie is a mighty sexy man still. I'll have to write these names down for MY kids. That is sooo cool that David wants more kids but through adoption, Those kids will be VERY LUCKY. Hopefully David's artery that was blocked is okay,. I mean what a way to crock while having sex..LMAO. I was upset when I heard David had to have emergency heart suregery. I'AM SOOO GLAD HE'S BETTER NOW, THE WORLD STILL NEEDS HIM.

Yeah, the last I heard, Duncan, aka Joe, aka Joey, aka Zowie, got his Ph.D in philosophy at an American college, and is now in film school in London. He was his father's best man at the wedding of DB and Iman, and he was a camerman for the DB 50th Birthday Bash at Madison Square Garden.

And he looks just like the old man.

And I ask you, is there anyone who wears a suit better than David Bowie?

As a Bowie fan I would assume you've seen "Velvet Goldmine."

Anyway, back to names, "Alexandria" was in honor of the ancient Greco-Egyptian city, and I suppose that since Alexandria was the site of the greatest library of ancient times, a library that was eventually burned down, it appealed to Bowie's imagination.

Supposedly on their first date, Bowie was so smitten by Iman he know she was The One, and he started rattling off the names of their future children right there over dinner.

In the Sept. 19, 2000 issue of "Hello! Magazine," (Bowie, Iman, and baby cover story---inside are cool pictures of their NYC apartment), Bowie said the names they picked out changed over the years. He said he'd privately been mulling over the name "Alexander" for a boy for years, and when he mentioned it, he was shocked to learn Iman was proposing "Alexandria" for a girl.

"Zahra" is said to be an Arabic form of "Sarah," and can mean "inner light," "luminous," "fair and beautiful," "blossoming," and "shining." "Zahra" was originally supposed to be given to Iman at birth, but a senior member of her family changed it at the last minute.

(Iman has an older daughter, named Zulekha Haywood {not to be confused with "Heywood"}, from a previous relationship.)

The couple initially picked those two names, then went through a cycle of 30 to 40 others before deciding their first choices were the best.

Anyway, I like it when people give their kids names that have deep meaning and significance to them, rather than hitching along with all the silly, trendy names. My plan, though, is to saddle mine with long strings of names, just like royalty and Hispanic Catholics do. That way I can use more of the names I like.

Talking WOW.....

WOW!!! 0_0 You're pretty awesome. OF COURSE I HAVE VELVET GOLDMINE. LOL. Who could miss Ewan Mcgreger's flapping body parts..LMAO, and of course the bowie related topics. After I saw Labrynth and those TIGHT SPANDEX, The Hunger and Soul Snatcher I loved Bowie from that moment on. But Labrynth was what really did it. My whole apartment is covered with Bowie pics. My parents alawys ask me how I can sleep with a picture of him looking at me while sleeping. I keep telling them it's VERY EASY. You should check out this BOWIELICOUSE website..... spanbodywear.com.....It's got the most awesome clothing. If you want to chat more, you can contact me at bowiefreak@dcwis.com....COULD YOU GUESS?? LOL!

i've seen a set of twins named
Zowie Justice
and
Ziggy Liberty
I dont know if the parents were Bowie fans as well, but i thought the patriotic theme for the middle names was cute with the less than traditional first names.=)
