Regarding "unique" names

I have a couple of friends having babies right now, so we have been discussing names a lot.

Growing up, I HATED my name, because 1) people would pronounce it wrong at roll calls, etc. 2) friends and acquaintances would sometimes shorten it to one syllable, which I didn't like 3) sometimes kids would make up sing-song meany names that went with my name, like "Dino, the dinosaur" (ok, that didn't happen too often, and really only in the 3rd grade, but at the time it really hurt my feelings), and 4) I could never get one of those keychains, necklaces, or anything "personalized" because my name was never on it.

Now, as an adult, I like my name and I have also met several people with the same name and spelling, but for many years (probably up until I was about 20 ) I hated it and it made me feel really different.

I will say I was always glad my name wasn't Jennifer or Laura (which was almost my name) because there were always four or so in my class at one time.
